Cha Ga-won, chairman of Piac Group, and rapper-producer MC Mong (real name Shin Dong-hyun) flatly denied the "affair" allegations and launched legal action against the outlet that first reported them.
On the 29th, Cha Ga-won's legal representative, the law firm Kwangjang (Ltd.), said in an official statement that they have sued the outlet that first reported the affair allegations against Cha Ga-won for defamation, invasion of privacy and damages.
Earlier, The Fact Co. on the 24th raised the affair allegations involving Cha Ga-won and MC Mong. It alleged that Cha Ga-won and MC Mong had been in an affair in the past and that Cha Ga-won sent funds totaling 12 billion won to MC Mong during the affair. The report also claimed that MC Mong's termination of his contract with One Hundred was because the two had broken up. It also released messenger chat logs said to be between MC Mong and Cha Ga-won. The chats included content suggesting the two had tried to conceive, which shocked readers.
Immediately after the report, MC Mong said on his social account that Cha Ga-won's uncle, Cha Joon-young, came to him and threatened him to give up his stake in Big Planet Made, and that in the process he handed over conversations that manipulated the relationship between him and Cha Ga-won, who is his friend. He also declared, "I will sue The Fact Co. and Cha Joon-young."
One Hundred also denied not only the affair allegations between Cha Ga-won and MC Mong but also all the messenger chats, saying "these are not true" and "they were sent after MC Mong was threatened and manipulated by Cha Joon-young, a relative of Cha Ga-won. At the time, Cha Joon-young threatened and forced MC Mong to sell shares to seize control of Big Planet Made, and in that process MC Mong's manipulated KakaoTalk messages were delivered. We plan to take strong legal action against Cha Joon-young and The Fact Co., which first reported this."
MC Mong later reiterated his position during a live broadcast. He said the establishment of Big Planet Made had been difficult and that "the first investor fell out, and the second investor who came in was Cha Ga-won. Then Cha Ga-won's uncle claimed he owned 10% equity. He said that if you add his share to mine and Park Jang-geun's equity, we could oust Chairman Cha and suggested we take over the company. I firmly refused, and rumors began circulating from then on," he said.
He added, "That friend and I always met with artists. When the article ran, all the BPM and One Hundred artists were probably laughing already. I hope this country will not be one where such manipulation is possible," and said in anger, "I did not create the sperm story. I will definitely find the malicious fabricator who deliberately made this fake." In the early hours of the 25th he warned, "Watch what Chairman Cha was toyed with. The KakaoTalk messages you sent me and the ones you sent to Chairman Cha and the artists—that someone wrote that as a porn-level fictional story. I even attached records showing tens of millions I sent, and I have always remained silent, but from now on I will sue everyone who talks about military service fraud, affairs, or any unspeakable things."
Meanwhile, Cha Ga-won said through his law firm that legal measures against the outlet that first reported the story are already underway. The law firm said, "Not only is the substance of The Fact Co.'s report entirely untrue, but it is extremely sensational and lurid, and as a result Chairman Cha Ga-won's personal rights, honor and social reputation have been so severely damaged that they are irrecoverable, and even the tranquility of his private life has been brutally trampled."
It added, "The writing, posting and distribution of this article and the related video constitute ① violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation), ② violation of Article 307 of the Criminal Act (defamation) and other criminal law provisions, ③ grounds for a claim for damages under Article 30 of the Act on Press Arbitration and Damage Remedies and Articles 750 and 751 of the Civil Act, and grounds for a disposition order for restoration of reputation under Article 31 of the Act on Press Arbitration and Damage Remedies and Article 764 of the Civil Act, and ④ a serious and clear infringement of the fundamental right to privacy and freedom under Article 17 of the Constitution that the person involved is entitled to. We have already initiated civil and criminal legal actions as of Dec. 29 against all persons involved in writing, posting and distributing the article and the related video for violations of these statutes."
It continued, "We inform you that all facts related to the article and the related video will be clearly revealed through subsequent legal procedures, and we ask that you refrain from unnecessary reporting that could cause irreparable damage to Chairman Cha Ga-won, his family and the various corporations Cha Ga-won manages."
