Spring Fever Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Joo-been kick off the 2026 new year with sweet rom-com chemistry.
On the afternoon of the 29th, the online press conference for tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama Spring Fever, held via live online stream, was attended by director Park Won-guk, actors Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Joo-been, among others, who discussed the production.
Spring Fever (directed by Park Won-guk / written by Kim Ah-jung / planned by CJ ENM STUDIOS / produced by Bon Factory) is a hot pink romance of spring days that will melt the frozen hearts of teacher Yoon Bom (played by Lee Joo-been), who endures the biting cold wind, and the man with a burning heart, Seon Jae-gyu (played by Ahn Bo-hyun).
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, Spring Fever raises expectations as director Park Won-guk, who earned recognition for trendy direction through Marry My Husband and Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist, teams up with writer Kim Ah-jung, who demonstrated the essence of romantic comedy with Love in 37 Seconds. Joining them are the reliably popular actor Ahn Bo-hyun and the rising rom-com star Lee Joo-been.
Director Park Won-guk said, The script was so fun. The character Seon Jae-gyu that unfolds in the script dismantles the usual drama conventions. He is a character that shows what true coolness is and what true comedy is. The script was so fun that I definitely wanted to direct it. I focused on capturing and directing the unexpected specialness.
Director Park, who received great love for his previous work Marry My Husband, laughed and said, Marry My Husband received so much love that I could not be satisfied with ordinary love. While preparing this project, I set a goal to receive even greater love surpassing Marry My Husband.
Ahn Bo-hyun plays Seon Jae-gyu, a person of interest whose eccentric actions stir up the village. Jae-gyu, the ultimate 'chonnmeu fatal', possesses a reversal charm: despite his large build and rough first impression reminiscent of back alleys, he has a passionate and steadfast pure love.
Ahn Bo-hyun said the reason he chose the project was, The script was so fun. I have long wanted to try a dialect in my acting. This is a work that feels like unleashing a secret weapon. I didn't want to miss this character. Since it's different in color from what I've done so far, I thought if I do it well people will enjoy it, so I approached it with the confidence that only I could do it.
He, who said he gained 5 kg for the character, said, Many of the works I've done so far were based on webtoons, so to satisfy readers and viewers I focused on syncing. To realize the character Seon Jae-gyu, I trained hard and always styled hair that would only be possible in comics, which was difficult. I had to wear outfits for a male lead that made me wonder if it was okay for him to wear such clothes, so eating was also painful.
He added, Gaining weight is something you can do easily by eating a lot, but this time I had to bulk up, so I lacked physical time. I put on about 4–5 kg along with muscle. It wasn't easy because I had to do it in a short time.
Lee Joo-been plays Yoon Bom, a high school teacher who arouses the villagers' curiosity and interest. Yoon Bom, who was a popular and beloved teacher in Seoul, comes down to a small provincial school with her heart closed for some reason.
Lee Joo-been said, When I first received the script I felt it was really fun. When I heard that Ahn Bo-hyun senior was cast, I entered filming with the expectation that only he could play the role. She explained, Bom is a character not often seen these days. She's a character who can fall apart completely and show many facets, so I was greedy to play her.
Director Park commented on Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Joo-been's acting, saying, Ahn Bo-hyun is really funny. He's great at improvisation and, on the other hand, his character interpretation is excellent, so he physically portrayed the character perfectly but also expressed it emotionally very well, and, He added, Lee Joo-been has excellent empathy and depth in emotional expression. If Seon Jae-gyu leads the drama with comic fun, Lee Joo-been maintains a realistic emotional line and makes it appear more convincing. It was born well and entertaining because of the two of them.
Asked about their romance chemistry, Ahn Bo-hyun said, Many couples have appeared in dramas, but you probably haven't seen chemistry of this size. I think the charm of the dialect and the back-and-forth between a Busan man and a Seoul woman are the fun points. Showing confidence, Lee Joo-been also praised, Our drama perfectly expresses Ahn Bo-hyun senior's physical attributes. He pulled off every cut as if he were a prodigy. His stamina and physicality seem to be his charm.
Finally, on viewing points for Spring Fever, Lee Joo-been said, It's been very cold lately, so instead of going outside, why not feel spring in advance at home? The viewing points will be a delight for the eyes. It's a drama where you can fall deeply into our addictive comedy with both excitement and fun.
Ahn Bo-hyun said, You've probably seen many rom-coms, but ours is not about push-and-pull. It's like spring fatigue, as the title suggests. It's warm and cold at the same time, and you can watch it refreshingly as if taking a sip of soda. Director Park said, It's a proper dialect drama. It's a drama where you can see the proper charms of Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Joo-been. It's a proper romantic comedy, so please enjoy it.
