Namyang Dairy Products founder's granddaughter Hwang Hana (37) was arrested for the third time on drug charges, and even the "detention fashion" she wore when appearing in court is drawing attention.
Hwang Hana underwent a pretrial detention hearing (warrant review) on charges of violating the narcotics control law at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch on the 26th.
The court said "there is a risk of evidence destruction" and issued an arrest warrant. Hwang Hana entered the courtroom without answering reporters' questions.
That day Hwang Hana appeared wearing a khaki long puffer coat, her face covered by a mask and hat. The puffer coat is presumed to be a product of foreign luxury brand Rick Owens, with a price estimated at about 3 million to 4 million won. Hwang Hana remained silent even when asked questions such as "Do you admit the charges?", "Did you use drugs in Thailand or Cambodia?", and "Did you flee to avoid investigation?"
Hwang Hana is accused of injecting methamphetamine into two people, a man and a woman, with a syringe at an acquaintance's home in Gangnam District, Seoul, in July 2023. After becoming a subject of investigation, she left for Thailand in December of the same year and was later found to have illegally entered Cambodia. Police are reported to have requested an Interpol blue notice and invalidated her passport.
Recently, after Hwang Hana expressed her willingness to appear voluntarily through her lawyer, police arrested her on the return flight at Tachao International Airport in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on the 24th. Hwang Hana claimed she returned voluntarily because she gave birth locally, but the court recognized the need for detention. Police plan to investigate the source of the methamphetamine, the circumstances of the use, and whether there were additional crimes during her stay abroad.
Meanwhile, Hwang Hana is known as the founder of Namyang Dairy Products' granddaughter and as the former girlfriend of Park Yuchun. She was indicted in 2015 on charges of repeatedly using methamphetamine with Park Yuchun and others and was sentenced in 2019 to one year in prison with two years' probation, and during the probation period she used drugs again and served 1 year and 8 months in prison. This arrest is her third reimprisonment in four years.<
