Singer the late Hong Jong-myung has been gone for 13 years already.
The late Hong Jong-myung was declared brain-dead on Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 46 and passed away. The next day, on the 29th, he was laid to rest at the Asan Medical Center funeral hall in Pungnap-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, receiving final farewells from many.
During his life, Hong Jong-myung underwent multiple surgeries for stroke symptoms and continued a difficult battle with illness. He later collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage and ultimately did not regain consciousness, ending his life amid the sorrow of family and fans.
A devout Christian, he had pledged to donate his organs during his life, and after his death he gifted new life to eight patients, leaving a profound impression until the end.
When the news was reported, condolences from colleagues in the music industry followed. Singer Kim Bum Soo posted on his social media, "Professor Hong Jong-myung. Rest in peace. The times I spent with you were happy and I am grateful," mourning the late figure. In addition, students and fellow musicians also shared warm memories and lamented the void left by the deceased.
Hong Jong-myung was known for his kind and quiet nature in life and was regarded as a "singer born to do it," who took music more seriously than anyone.
Meanwhile, Hong Jong-myung was loved for OSTs such as the theme song "The road I must take" for the drama "Beautiful Her," "Remember me" for "Happy Together," and "A single love" for the drama "Barefoot Youth." He also taught students as a professor in the practical music department at Seoul Institute of the Arts.
