Former soccer player Lee Dong-gook's son, a boy named Lee Sian, suffered a facial injury.
On the 28th, Lee Dong-gook's wife, Lee Su-jin, shared on her social media, "Does it hurt… I hurt too, really. Raising five children, this is the first time something like this has happened, so I was stunned for a moment and my heart dropped," conveying the heartbreaking news.
Lee Su-jin explained the circumstances of the accident, saying, "He wasn't hurt while playing, and he wasn't hurt while playing soccer," and added, "Someone said it would be good to practice juggling with a tennis ball, so he hurried inside to look for the ball, and he pulled a door he shouldn't have pulled and hit his face directly."
In the released photo, Sian is shown with a deep wound below his eye, close to the center of his face, causing concern. Lee Su-jin said, "It was right in the middle of his face, in the most visible spot, and it was driven in so deeply," and confessed, "I can't sleep and I keep replaying that scene, so I'm upset."
She went on, "I worry about scarring, but you worry about not being able to play soccer," conveying the differing worries of the child and the parents. She particularly recalled the scene, saying, "The child, who trembles even at the thought of a shot to the arm, was given a numbing injection in his face and cried and screamed uncontrollably."
Sian ultimately received sutures with six stitches to his face. Lee Su-jin added, "After it was all over, he was embarrassed, saying, 'That much crying wasn't necessary, I overreacted,'" and also shared a warm family moment, saying, "Older sister Jae-si held his hand tightly until the end and hugged him and stayed by his side, which at least helped calm him down a bit."
Meanwhile, Lee Dong-gook and Lee Su-jin have four daughters and one son. Youngest son Sian is following his father in nurturing a dream of becoming a soccer player, and recently, after winning the 2024 Chungju Apple Cup national youth soccer festival, he drew attention by passing an entry test for the LA Galaxy youth team of the U.S. Major League Soccer powerhouse.
