"She went to sleep after watching a movie with her daughter"… late Kim Young Dae, the last moments conveyed by An Hyun-mo spark a wave of mourning
Pop music critic the late Kim Young Dae died at age 48, and broadcaster An Hyun-mo's account of his final moments has deepened the sorrow.
At 9 a.m. on the 27th, a funeral procession for the late Kim Young Dae was held at the Chung-Ang University Hospital funeral home in Dongjak District, Seoul, and at 10 a.m. a funeral mass was held at the church in Heukseok-dong. The burial site is Seoul Memorial Park, and he will later be interred at the Peace Shelter.
The late Kim Young Dae suddenly passed away on the 24th. The bereaved family announced the death via social media, but the specific cause was not disclosed. In particular, just before the news of his death, he appeared on a pre-recorded CBS program Kim Hyun-jung's News Show to meet listeners for a special on "Koreans' choice of carols TOP7," which made the news even more heartbreaking.
After the broadcast, the production team of Kim Hyun-jung's News Show said, "This program was pre-recorded last week, and after it aired on the 25th we received news of Kim Young Dae's death," adding, "We cannot contain our shock at the sudden news and express our deep condolences."
Meanwhile, on the 28th An Hyun-mo expressed deep sorrow on her social media, conveying the late person's final farewell. She wrote calmly, "I never dreamed the day would come this soon when I would have to say something like this," and "By now I have to believe he has arrived in heaven and is eating something delicious."
An Hyun-mo remembered the late person as "a wonderful and cheerful friend who approached everyone he met with kindness and an open mind free of prejudice, always making people feel comfortable," and "a close friend with whom even shy me could, like an old classmate, endlessly share stories about music, movies and life."
She added that his love for his family made the moment even more poignant. An Hyun-mo said, "He was always excited talking about his wife and children," and "This year, as in every year, following the Christmas tradition he kept, he watched his favorite movie 'The Family Man' one last time with his beloved daughter and closed his eyes — a true family man," which moved readers.
She went on to say, "Mr. Young Dae was a father and husband who knew the value of the most precious things in life, and a son and older brother," and expressed regret that "as a music critic and writer he was unparalleled in popular culture criticism and communication, and there was so much more he could have shown…" She prayed, asking that he "enjoy heavenly music to his heart's content in heaven, and when we meet again someday tell all the stories of the time until then."
Finally she wrote, "He always called me his best friend, but I reflect on how inadequate I was," and "I will remember and mourn the late Kim Young Dae forever. I hope he rests peacefully without any worries," leaving her final farewell.
After An Hyun-mo's post was shared, internet users continued to post condolences, saying, "I cry at the thought that he left after watching a movie with his daughter," "a real family man who spent his last moments with his family," "it is even more heartbreaking that he left at such a young age," "I will long remember critic Kim Young Dae's writing and voice," and "I hope he does not suffer there."
