Marvel actor Kumail Nanjiani opened up himself about the absurd affair rumors surrounding him. The other party was none other than former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama.
Kumail Nanjiani recently granted an appearance on the podcast So True With Caleb Hearon and said, "Last year there were rumors that I was having an affair with Michelle Obama," he revealed. When host Caleb Hearon jokingly said, "congratulations," he laughed and replied, "I also heard that and felt oddly flattered," making the room erupt in laughter.
Nanjiani said, "I first learned of the rumor when someone brought it up directly to my wife," and recalled, "a mutual acquaintance told my wife, Emily, 'Kumail is dating Michelle Obama.'" He added, "My wife was not angry at all. It was such an absurd rumor that so many people brought it up to me."
He immediately corrected the record. "I have never actually met Michelle Obama," he drew a line, and the host added, "then it isn't an affair, case closed," wrapping up the situation to more laughter.
The conversation led to another absurd rumor. The host mentioned that there were also affair rumors at the same time about actress Jennifer Aniston and Barack Obama, and Nanjiani responded jokingly, "Do you think that could be real?" He finished with his characteristic humor, saying, "Frankly, it makes no sense for them to come after me or Aniston."
Meanwhile, Nanjiani also mentioned the deep trust with his wife, writer and producer Emily V. Gordon, whom he married in 2007. The two co-wrote the film The Big Sick based on their real love story and received great acclaim after being nominated for the Academy Award for best screenplay.
Nanjiani gained global recognition for his role as Kingo in the Marvel film Eternals, and he continues to be active this year.
