Broadcaster Lee Sang-byeok has lost his mother. His daughter, broadcaster Lee Ji-yeon, has lost her grandmother.
According to the broadcasting industry on the 28th, Lee Sang-byeok's mother, Kim Shin-ja, passed away on the 27th. She was 101.
The funeral wake was set up in Room 31 of the funeral hall at The Catholic Univ. of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on the 30th. The burial site is Namhangang Park Cemetery.
Lee Sang-byeok appeared on the MBN "Sokpuri Show Dongchimi" aired last September and showed affection for his mother.
He said, "My mother is still alive. She had nine siblings, and she is now 101 years old," and added, "She is still in good health. She even drinks a glass of beer and has a good sense of humor."
He said that there were originally nine siblings but now there are seven, saying, "Why there are seven siblings is because when they came down from the north, my grandparents said not to take the younger sibling because he was too young. They agreed to look after him, and from then on they were separated for life," and continued, "And I was sitting as the eldest son, but there was supposed to be an older brother above me. At the time, names were sometimes given three years after birth. So I think he might have lived until about two years old. He died when he was young. And I became the eldest son."
