Television personality Hong Seok-cheon candidly shared everything from a father's worries about his adopted daughter's upcoming wedding to intense parenting episodes during her adolescence.
Hong Seok-cheon appeared on the YouTube channel "Yeouido Yuktoe Club" released on the 26th and discussed realistic parenting stories with the grants. He said, "I hardly have any worries about parenting itself now, but these days a new worry has arisen about my child's marriage," and gave an update.
He continued, "My daughter asked first, saying when she would like to get married and asking how many guests she could invite," and "these days you have to reserve wedding halls a year in advance, so the reality hit home," he said. He recalled, "About 300 people come to my birthday party, but I'm curious how many will come to my daughter's wedding," which drew laughter, and the grants chimed in, "A thousand people will surely come."
Talk of the wedding naturally led to past parenting days. Hong Seok-cheon recalled, "During puberty I once had a big fight with my daughter," remembering an incident of makeup during her middle school years. He said, "At first I let it go thinking 'that can happen,' but at some point she was wearing outrageously inappropriate makeup," reflecting on the time.
He especially said, "She put gaudy blush on her cheeks and kept acting like she was pretty, but from a viewer's perspective it was frustrating," and "so I said, 'You can't go out like that, take it off right now,' but she said, 'It's trendy these days and all my friends do it.'" He added, "But friends are not always right, are they? Pubescent kids don't know that well," expressing the difficulties of being a parent.
In response, Sayuri said, "Isn't he a dad with an excellent sense of aesthetics?" and defended Hong Seok-cheon, and Hong Seok-cheon laughed and said, "As a top gay dad, honestly it's not easy to have her wear that kind of makeup," drawing empathy.
The conversation then continued to how to deal with adolescent children. Sayuri said, "Doing nothing is best. If you try to do something, it becomes harder," sharing her experiences, and frankly discussed the subtle distance between parents and children, which softened the atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Hong Seok-cheon was born in 1971 and turned 54 this year. He was the first celebrity in Korea to come out as gay, is widely recognized as the most famous gay person, and adopted his elder sister's two children after her divorce in 2008. Through a broadcast he also explained the reason for the adoption, saying, "My sister was starting a new love because of the children, and I didn't want her to feel burdened,".<
