Broadcaster Ham So-won and her "ex-husband" Jin Hua's divorce spectacle has continued for two years.
On the 27th episode of MBN "Sokpuri Show Dongchimiji," Ham So-won, Jin Hua and their daughter Hye-jeong appeared and revealed stories after the divorce.
Ham So-won and Jin Hua, who were repeatedly embroiled in divorce rumors after marriage. The two announced they had "really" divorced on Dec. 20, 2022.
After the divorce, Ham So-won consistently pushed "divorce" and "reconciliation" as her own issues. After officially released the divorce, she showed an incomprehensible family arrangement of living together with her ex-husband, and she left words that were hard to understand in Korea's still strongly Confucian society — saying they separated for the child but could reunite for the child.
He appeared as the first guest of season 3 of MBN "Let's Go Go" and talked about the divorce process, but failed to gain persuasiveness, and beyond cohabiting with his ex-wife, he was suspected of a staged divorce after showing shopping with his former mother-in-law.
Despite lingering suspicions, Ham So-won and Jin Hua are continuing their relationship. Ham So-won was a mother who treated her daughter with strict discipline and education, and Jin Hua was a father who, like an angel, would do anything for the daughter he saw once every two weeks. Dissatisfaction arose from this, and the two had the kinds of fights often seen on variety shows until now. Although it was their first meal together alone after the divorce, the two did not match from spending habits to how they chose the menu. Even the "Dongchimiji" panel watching this shook their heads.
Jin Hua said about his marriage and divorce with Ham So-won, "Shouldn't we respect the choice of the person you love? If So-won really wants a divorce, I thought divorce might be the right choice rather than fighting like this every day. After the divorce my mind was very troubled. A friend learned of that wandering, and when things were hard the friend said I should go out and invited me to Bangkok, so I went to Bangkok."
Ham So-won replied, "I couldn't pass by you when you were struggling, and you ran to me and I didn't let go, did you? I felt then that you need me," explaining why she could not make a complete break with Jin Hua. Later Ham So-won said, "I'm sorry for rushing the divorce without knowing your feelings. From now on, even if there are some frustrating parts, I'll try to endure a bit more. Thank you for always being by our daughter's side."
Dr. Lee Kwang-min, who saw this, said, "I oppose this couple reuniting. If they reconcile, Jin Hua will return to his old ways. I think the start may not have been healthy. I describe Ham So-won's certain degree of control and Jin Hua's certain degree of dependence as a pathological relationship," and added, "Anyway, Jin Hua had a fear of being abandoned so he depended on Ham So-won. When one day his wife notified him of the divorce, the sadness of being abandoned would have risen," and he said, "If things calm down a bit and they can have a relationship that gives feedback, the possibility of reconciliation would increase."
The divorce-that-seems-like-not and not-that-seems-like divorce "divorce spectacle" of Ham So-won and Jin Hua has continued into its third year. The two, who hit their heyday with "marriage," seem unable to let go after the divorce as if they cannot forget that time. The only ones confused in the meantime are the viewers; it is time to consider the image being consumed by the continuing "divorce spectacle."
