Oliver Teacher, an English education YouTuber with 2.25 million subscribers, is leaving the United States to settle in Korea.
On the 27th, according to the entertainment industry and others, Oliver Teacher posted a video titled "Korean wife and 8 years of U.S. immigration… I'm really giving up now" on his YouTube channel "Oliver Teacher."
In the video, Oliver Teacher said, "Many people may think there would be no problems because the United States is a powerful country, but in reality, that's not the case," citing taxes, public education, and health care.
Oliver Teacher said, "Starting in 2026, I have to pay $8,000 in property tax (about 11.56 million won)," and added, "For homeowners insurance, I have to pay $4,402 (about 6.37 million won)."
He went on to say that public education in the United States is collapsing rapidly. Oliver Teacher's wife said, "In reality, school budgets have been cut a lot," and explained, "Instead of teachers, ordinary people without certifications are filling the positions."
Oliver Teacher's wife also voiced dissatisfaction with the U.S. health care system. She said, "My grandfather was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer," and added, "No matter how much we wanted him to get tests, he couldn't get them."
She continued, "I don't even know why we have to be treated like this when we pay about 4 million won a month in premiums. This is a place where if you get sick, you just disappear like a consumable."
Oliver Teacher also raised climate change as an issue. Oliver Teacher said, "In Texas, summer temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius," and added, "Two weeks before our child was born, a power shortage occurred and everything stopped. Around 300 people died then."
