The mother of actress Nam Bo-ra, known as the eldest of 13 siblings, confessed that her health deteriorated while raising a large family.
On the episode of KBS 2TV Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant that aired on the 26th, Nam Bo-ra prepared large-quantity dishes for her big family with her mother and shared painful family memories they had not been able to bring up until now.
That day Nam Bo-ra asked her mother "Did you ever cry raising us? I have hardly ever seen you cry," and her mother calmly revealed the tiring times hidden behind her strong appearance, saying "Many times. Would I cry in front of the children just because raising them is hard?"
Her mother recalled, "It was toughest when you and David were burned." Nam Bo-ra recalled the time, explaining, "When I was in elementary school I tried to use the deep fryer by myself and spilled it. Se-bin was also seriously injured then." Her mother added, "You had a burn on one leg, and David was a baby. It was really hard going back and forth to the hospital with the two of them."
Nam Bo-ra added, "David's burn was so severe that they even said he might need a skin graft," underscoring how precarious the situation was at the time. Fortunately, he reportedly recovered without scarring, prompting a sigh of relief.
The painful memories did not end there. Her mother said, "The hardest time was when the children got chickenpox. Thirteen of them fell ill in turn," and added, "I did the bedding laundry every day and disinfected every day. As soon as one recovered, another got sick," laying bare a story that pained listeners.
Hearing this, Nam Bo-ra choked up, saying, "Our mother suffered so much raising all of us." In fact, Nam Bo-ra's mother reportedly suffered major health difficulties, undergoing gallstone surgery followed by a urinary stone. Her mother said, "If someone says raising children is hard, I tell them you have to raise your child with the mindset of cultivating virtue for them to do well."
Hearing this, Nam Bo-ra said in a pained voice, "Mother really cultivated virtue. While raising us, something spiritual came out of her body."
After the broadcast was released, internet users responded with deep empathy, saying things like "A mother who raised 13 children truly deserves respect," "The expression that something spiritual came out of her body really resonates," "Why am I crying?", "I felt how great a mother is," and "Still, since the children all grew up well, the mother must really feel rewarded."
Meanwhile, Nam Bo-ra, the eldest of 13 siblings, became known through the past program 'Human Theater' and later debuted as an actress. Recently she announced her pregnancy along with her marriage, marking another turning point in her life.<
