Hwang Hana, the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products who was arrested by police while fleeing abroad on drug charges and the former fiancée of singer and actor Park Yuchun, has been detained.
On the 26th, Seoh Hyo-jin, the warrant duty chief judge at Suwon District Court Anyang Branch, issued an arrest warrant for Hwang Hana on suspicion of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics.
In the prearrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive review) held that morning, Judge Seo said, "There is a risk of evidence destruction," explaining the reason for issuing the arrest warrant for Hwang Hana.
Hwang Hana is suspected of injecting methamphetamine into two others, including an acquaintance, using a syringe in Gangnam, Seoul, in July 2023. With the arrest warrant issued, the police plan to continue investigating the route by which Hwang Hana obtained the drugs and the details of the drug use.
According to SBS 8 News, Hwang Hana denied the charges in the warrant substantive review, saying, "I did not take methamphetamine, and I did not give it to an acquaintance," and said she had decided to return to Korea because she wanted to take responsibility for the child she recently gave birth to in Cambodia.
Hwang Hana fled to Thailand in December of the same year while under police investigation on drug charges. When her flight abroad prevented further investigation, the police requested a blue notice (location inquiry) from Interpol in May last year and invalidated her passport.
It was later reported that Hwang Hana entered Cambodia by unknown means and had been staying there. It was reported in October that she was living a luxurious life in Cambodia.
Meanwhile, Hwang Hana's lawyer recently informed the police of her intention to surrender voluntarily, and the police began arrest procedures.
The police went to Cambodia, coordinated with local consular officials, took custody of Hwang Hana and executed the arrest warrant on a national carrier at Phnom Penh Techo International Airport. Hwang Hana arrived in Korea through Incheon International Airport at 7:50 a.m. on the 24th and was questioned at Gwacheon Police Station.

Hwang Hana was detected on suspicion of administering methamphetamine and other drugs three times between May and June and in September 2015 at her home in Yongsan District, Seoul, and was also accused of illegally taking two medications containing the psychotropic drug clonazepam in April 2018. However, while on suspended sentence she was again indicted on drug use charges, received a sentence of one year and eight months, and was released in 2022.
Hwang Hana was also investigated in connection with a drug case involving the late actor Lee Sun-kyun and was booked last year on suspicion of using drugs in 2023.
A police official said, "Confirmation from the Cambodian immigration office showed no record of Hwang Hana's entry, so it is presumed she entered illegally," and added, "This arrest is unrelated to the late Lee Sun-kyun case, and we understand that Hwang Hana was also cleared of charges in that case."
