Cartoonist and broadcaster Kian84 drew attention by giving his mother a thick bundle of cash as a birthday present.
On the 26th, the MBC I Live Alone episode showed Kian84 spending time with his mother and preparing a modest birthday party. The highlight of the episode was, by far, the "cash gift without an envelope".
After finishing the meal, Kian84 rummaged through his pockets to hand his mother a birthday present, and soon pulled out a bundle of cash bound with 10,000-won notes. The unexpected manner of gifting immediately drew reactions in the studio. Panelists joked and laughed, saying, "Isn't there an envelope?" and "Did you rob an ATM?"
In response, Kian84 said, "Isn't this better than a 50,000-won bill? It's 1 million won," and added, "You will be more careful spending it if I give it like this." Jun Hyun-moo humorously replied, "Why didn't you give 5,000-won bills instead?" to which Kian84 responded, "Only 10,000-won bills came out," provoking laughter.
His mother, though embarrassed, showed an honest reaction, saying, "Thank you. I'll be careful with it. It's a lot," and a small but affectionate birthday scene was completed. It was a moment when family warmth was conveyed without a big gesture.
After the broadcast, internet users also reacted strongly to the cash gift scene. Comments continued, such as, "The bundle of cash was funnier because it's more realistic," "Giving it without an envelope is so Kian84," "From a mother's perspective, that's the best gift," "That feels more heartfelt than packaging," and "Even cash given like that is moving."
Meanwhile, Kian84 was born in 1984 and is a 41-year-old Korean cartoonist and broadcaster. In 2019 he purchased a building near Seokchon Station in Songpa District for 4.6 billion won, and the building later became a big topic as its price rose to about 6.2 billion won.<
