Broadcaster Sayuri recalled the protests against her appearance that followed when she appeared on 'The Return of SUPERMAN' and shared her feelings at the time.
On the 19th, the YouTube channel "Yeouido Yooktoe Club" released a video featuring MC Kwak Beom, 'single mother' Sayuri, 'gay' Hong Seok-cheon, and 'lesbian mom' Kim Gyu-jin appearing together to talk about the meaning of family and various forms of life.
On the day, Kwak Beom cautiously asked Sayuri, "I heard there were protests against your appearance when you were on 'The Return of SUPERMAN'." Sayuri calmly recalled the situation, saying, "The protests went on for quite a long time," and "There were protests because a single mother was appearing on 'The Return of SUPERMAN'."
Sayuri also said she especially remembers Hong Seok-cheon's reaction as he watched the scene. She said, "Hong Seok-cheon looked very upset," and "It seemed like old memories came back. He asked me, 'Are you okay?' He never says that normally, so I was even more grateful."
Hong Seok-cheon briefly empathized, saying, "I've been through something like that too," and added, "In most cases, the 'first one' is the hardest." Sayuri nodded at his words, saying, "He probably went through a much harder time than I did."
Sayuri also spoke honestly about her mindset before and after having a child. She said, "If I could have a child, I could endure anything," and "No matter how much abuse I received, I wasn't deeply hurt." She added with firm conviction, "Many people said the child was pitiable, but I thought there was no problem as long as the child himself did not feel pitiable."
The cast's conversation once again underscored the need to respect and understand different forms of family.
Meanwhile, Sayuri was born in 1979 and turned 46 this year. A Japanese-born broadcaster active in Korea, she gave birth to a son in 2020 after receiving sperm donation from a Western man in Japan.<
