Two years have already passed since fans tearfully bid farewell to the late actor Lee Seon-gyun. Fans still miss the late Lee Seon-gyun as they see him in his works.
The late Lee Seon-gyun was found dead on Dec. 27, 2023, in a parking lot near a park in Jongno District, Seoul. He was 48.
Before his death, the late Lee Seon-gyun was embroiled in controversy after undergoing police interrogations three times on suspicions of drug use. At the time he reported to the police that he had been extorted of 350 million won in cash after being threatened by a woman identified as A, a manager at an entertainment venue in Gangnam District, Seoul, and another woman, B, who was A's acquaintance.
But A accused the late Lee Seon-gyun of drug offenses, and he had to be investigated by the police as a suspect in drug charges despite being a victim of threats.
During the investigation, the late Lee Seon-gyun continued to deny the allegations, and drug tests were negative, but he had to stand before police photo lines for all three police interrogations. In this way, Lee Seon-gyun's alleged drug offenses were widely publicized from the initial inquiry stage, and some media outlets exposed past conversations between him and A as well as undisclosed details of the police investigation.
In the end, the late Lee Seon-gyun was found dead about two months after the probe began, following his third police summons, shocking the public. Afterwards, the 경기남부경찰청 anti-corruption and economic crime investigation unit urgently arrested a police officer C from Incheon Police Agency on suspicion of leaking investigation information about the late Lee Seon-gyun to a news outlet.
Recently, Kim Saet-byul, judge of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 11, sentenced C, who was indicted on charges including breach of official secrets, to 1 year and 2 months in prison with a two-year suspension and ordered 80 hours of community service. Judge Kim said the reason for the sentence was, "He admitted his wrongdoing, and the crime did not substantially hinder the investigation. He served diligently as a police officer for 10 years and was dismissed over this matter."
The late Lee Seon-gyun's death shocked the entertainment industry, and even after two years, voices mourning and remembering him continue. On the first anniversary last year, actor Song Joong-ki appeared on MBC radio's Perfect Day Lee Sang-soon and preformed the My Mister OST "Adult," in which the late Lee Seon-gyun starred. At the time, Song Joong-ki said he missed him, saying, "In a few days it will also be the anniversary of my dearly loved brother Lee Seon-gyun. I miss him."

You remain the most beautiful and shining moment, and I live missing you as time flows with wrinkles, gray hair and a growing belly. Frozen time has become precious memories, and even today I meet you in those memories; a year has passed but the longing is still vivid. Your life was truly special, and the moments we shared will live forever in everyone's hearts. Until we meet again someday, rest in peace there. My Mister Lee Seon-gyun, my friend Lee Seon-gyun," he recalled.
