Actor Oh Yoon-ah became emotional mentioning her son Song-min's school admission news.
On the 26th, Oh Yoon-ah posted a video titled "Oh Yoon-ah: Song-min, Oh Yoon-ah's son coming of age, aims to be a swimmer" on her personal YouTube channel Oh! Yoon-ah.
That day Oh Yoon-ah revealed news about her son Song-min's school admission. She said, "Min failed to get into the school. Two students in the class failed, and one of those two was Min. He just needed to avoid dropping out, but he dropped out," she said with a wry smile. She added, "In the U.S. he followed along so well, didn't get annoyed and did well, so I thought he would do very well. So I thought he would go to school, but when he actually went he did very poorly," expressing a sense of emptiness.
She continued, "When he failed I was so flustered. Tears came and I thought, 'I didn't pay enough attention, I raised him poorly.' 'I was in a position to raise him well, so why did I just neglect him like this?' I thought that raising him comfortably would make him more sociable, but I wondered if I had neglected him. I felt sorry and guilty," she said, choking up.
However, Oh Yoon-ah was not discouraged. She said, "On the contrary, I think this could be a greater opportunity for Min. I heard that for kids like Min who do special athletics, it's very good for their careers. Min likes swimming, and swimming was an option. It was such good news," she said, her eyes shining.
She said, "When Min was a second-year high school student, one teacher took charge and he improved a lot. Last year the teacher said, 'Min is skilled enough so try entering a competition.' That was a special competition. It was a championship that could provide the conditions to qualify for the Paralympics," and added, "I was told Min has good physicality and does well so it seems there's enough potential. But right now he has no competitive drive, no sense of rivalry and no athlete experience, so if he gains a lot of experience he would have a good chance," expressing hope.
In response, Oh Yoon-ah said, "If Min wants to enter a competition next year he will have to miss a lot of school. The effort of having him swim since he was 5 seems to be paying off now. I was surprised because he's good at swimming. He has good athletic instincts," she said, evoking hope for her son's bright future.
Oh Yoon-ah married in 2007 and gave birth to her son Song-min. However, she divorced her ex-husband in 2015, eight years after marrying, and has been raising the child alone. She revealed that Song-min has a developmental disability and received support for doing so. Accordingly, she has shared the daily life of a single mom and working mom raising a child with a developmental disability alone through various broadcasts, SNS and YouTube, drawing encouragement and support.
