'Exclusive World' actor Shin Jun-young cautiously opened up about his complicated family history.
On the 25th aired MBN 'Exclusive World', actor Shin Jun-young, who showed diverse performances in 'Jumong', 'All In', and 'King of Baking, Kim Tak-gu', appeared. The reason he has not been seen in the media recently was because, after debuting as a film director four years ago, he has been focusing on film production. Shin Jun-young, who debuted as a film director four years ago and even won an international film award for 'Ant killer', shyly smiled and said, "I was also very interested in films. I set up a production company with a senior I know and started producing films. I have received many big awards, so I hope to continue working more as a film director."
He began theater life with an interest in acting since high school. Still involved with the theater troupe, he felt affection when watching the actors. Shin Jun-young said, "They are not my real family, but I gain something from the actors. If I hadn't done theater, I wonder what I would have done."
His childhood was unfortunate. His parents divorced when he was 10 years old, and his mother had no choice but to leave. His mother occasionally showed maternal feelings by visiting the children to give pocket money or buy clothes, but on the days she visited, his father's violence followed.
Shin Jun-young said, "When my mother came and gave us pocket money or bought us clothes, my father would get angry and punish me. I hated that so much. The pain was so intense that I told her not to come," saying those words were only for himself. The mother said, "My son told me, 'I'll come after I graduate high school. I'll grow up well. Don't come.' So I kept my promise. My son really came to find me after graduating high school," she said, showing heavy affection for her son.
What changed Shin Jun-young was his family. Shin Jun-young, who married a wife 10 years younger, married 22 years ago and lived with his wife's family. Shin Jun-young happily said, "Actually, the happy times didn't last long, so what my father-in-law and mother-in-law do feels like what parents do for their children, and I am so happy. I newly felt that family is very precious and important."
His mother-in-law said, "My son-in-law's father passed away on that day, he died at 11:25 p.m., and my son-in-law said, 'Father, I received a lot of love for 20 years, but he passed away before I could repay that love. I will repay that love to the remaining family.' I really felt that heart," looking at Shin Jun-young with the eyes of a son rather than a son-in-law. In fact, Shin Jun-young devotedly cared for his mother-in-law, such as personally bringing beef bone soup for the mother-in-law who was hospitalized with a fracture.
Shin Jun-young thought he should now resolve the conflict with his father. However, whenever the topic of his parents came up, he would tear up and hesitate a bit, and his son Dong-min cheered him on. Shin Jun-young became a warm father who said he wanted to be a friendly father to his son, making breakfast himself and continuously trying to have conversations.
However, Shin Jun-young could not meet his father. His father did not even answer his calls. Shin Jun-young said calmly, "Just because there are no good memories doesn't mean he isn't my father. It's the age to resolve those parts now, and to be a respectable father between father and son, I think I should become that kind of father," which made viewers' eyes redden.
