Actress Nam Bo-ra's mother candidly revealed the hardships of childcare she experienced while raising 13 siblings.
On the 26th episode of KBS 2TV Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant, Nam Bo-ra and her mother were shown preparing food together ahead of a large family sports day for 13 siblings.
That day Nam Bo-ra asked her mother, "While raising us, did you ever cry? I've almost never seen you cry," and her mother calmly replied, "Of course. Would you cry in front of the children while struggling to raise them?" as she recalled the difficult moments. She especially mentioned "when you and David both got burned," which surprised everyone.
Nam Bo-ra explained, "I tried to use the deep fryer by myself and ended up overturning it. Se-bin was hurt then, too," and her mother recalled, "You suffered a burn on one leg, and David was a baby. Taking both of them to the hospital was really hard."
Watching this, Nam Bo-ra said, "David's condition was so severe that there was talk of whether he would need a skin graft," and added, "Fortunately, there are no scars now."
Nam Bo-ra's mother also said, "The hardest time was when the children got chickenpox," and lamented, "When one recovered, another would get it. I had to wash bedding and disinfect every day, and strangely they didn't all get it at once but took turns getting sick."
Nam Bo-ra said, "The really strange thing is that among 13 people there isn't a single child who is similar. Raising all of you must have caused mom a lot of pain," and her mother confessed, "Maybe it's because I got older. Before I turned 50 I only went to the obstetrics clinic to give birth. After turning 50 I had surgery for gallstones, and two years later I went back to the hospital for urinary stones."
Her mother went on, "Raising children is truly hard. I thought you should be raised with the mindset of cultivating the way if you want your child to do well," and Nam Bo-ra joked, "You really cultivated the way. Something came out of mom's body," drawing laughter.
Nam Bo-ra also said, "I wish mom would rest or cut back on work, but she really loves working. People who have worked seem unable to help themselves," expressing both respect and concern for her mother.
Nam Bo-ra was born in 1989 and turned 36 this year. She is the eldest of 13 siblings, gained recognition through Human Theater and later debuted as an actress, and last May married a businessman of the same age and recently announced a pregnancy, drawing attention.<
