'Michelin three-star chef Anh Sung-jae's modified recipe for his daughter, the "Dubai jjondeuk cookie," is unexpectedly drawing attention. While some fans are voicing complaints, responses such as "Is this worth this much criticism?" are also appearing.
On the 25th, a video titled 'Santa Sung-jae's Dubai jjondeuk tooti first reveal?!' was posted on Anh Sung-jae's personal YouTube channel. The video showed Anh Sung-jae preparing food with his daughter and son for Christmas. The daughter requested the "Dubai jjondeuk cookie," the son asked for bulgogi, and Anh Sung-jae said he would make a quicker, simpler modified version of the "Dubai jjondeuk cookie" along with a bulgogi pizza.
The children showed impressive knife skills despite their young age, raising expectations that the results would look appetizing. But the problematic(?) moment came while making the dessert.
The Dubai jjondeuk cookie, which has recently become so popular it even caused sellouts, is a dessert made by mixing kadaif and pistachio, wrapping them in butter-melted marshmallow, and dusting them with cocoa powder. Its chewy texture and exotic ingredient combination have made it a menu item dominating SNS photo posts.
However, Anh Sung-jae reduced the amount of marshmallow for his daughter's health and instead packed in plenty of pistachio and kadaif. He also chose to spread it wide and cut it like gangjeong instead of making round cookie shapes. Seeing this, his daughter made a doubtful face, asking, "Is this right?" and "Isn't it supposed to be done like this," drawing laughter.
Anh Sung-jae confidently said, "This is also right," and the children who tasted the finished dessert showed a surprising reaction, saying, "It's better than I thought." However, the daughter showed a slightly disappointed look at the appearance being different from what she had seen on SNS, bringing another laugh.
After the video was posted, fans jokingly sided with the daughter, saying, "It's Dubai gangjeong," and "Not Dubai, not jjondeuk, not cookie." On the other hand, some reacted with puzzlement, saying, "He changed it thinking of the child's health, is this worth such insults?" and "He wasn't a chef today, just a dad."
In the end, Anh Sung-jae's choice is being seen as a small episode born of a mismatch between the daughter's wish to faithfully recreate the trendy recipe and the father's desire to make it healthier and quicker.
The video drew great interest, surpassing 1.8 million views within a day of its release and topping 7,000 comments. Playful barbs such as "Today he is not the chef but just the man from nowhere," "Be sure to read the comments," and "The Culinary Class Wars judge is eliminated today" have added to the laughter.
The small episode over a trendy dessert remains a topic of conversation amid reactions that it showed another side of Anh Sung-jae's charm.<
