Comedian-turned-film director Shim Hyeong-rae's recent condition is drawing attention.
Recently, the YouTube channel "Young-gu TV" posted a video titled "Shim Hyeong-rae starts YouTube. I came after completely fixing my face."
In the video, Shim Hyeong-rae visited a hospital and said, "I'm going to completely remodel my face," and explained the reason he decided to undergo surgery: "Celebrities must keep managing themselves. Since I'll be doing YouTube, I want to greet people with a good appearance."
The surgery he underwent was a facelift, a procedure that improves wrinkles and sagging across the entire face. Shim Hyeong-rae said he had previously undergone a facelift and candidly admitted, "This hurts a lot. It's a surgery that fully exposes the jaw area." He added, "It's for the fans. Celebrities must have a sense of professionalism. If possible, I want to meet fans with a better face."
After the surgery, Shim Hyeong-rae appeared in front of the camera with his face bandaged. Although swelling remained, he did not lose his characteristic humor, saying, "The screen looks much better." The attending doctor also explained, "The sagging around the cheeks will be greatly corrected," adding, "The bruising will mostly disappear in about a week."
In particular, after the surgery Shim Hyeong-rae joked, "When you come to a hospital like this, you start thinking maybe I'll remarry," showing a relaxed attitude. The footage also captured him responding with laughter to the production team's comment, "You already look younger."
Meanwhile, Shim Hyeong-rae, who represented comedians of the 1980s and 1990s and was greatly loved for the "Young-gu" character, later expanded his activities as a director by directing films such as "Yonggary" and "D-War." Recently he has been appearing before the public again, including returning to the "Gag Concert" stage after about 14 years.
