Hollywood star Chris Evans officially returns to Marvel through 'Avengers: Doomsday (Avengers: Doomsday).
The first teaser trailer for 'Avengers: Doomsday' was first revealed on the screen before the screening of the film 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' In the footage, Captain America, played by Evans, is shown holding a newborn in his arms, attracting attention.
Afterward, the teaser screen displayed the phrase "Steve Rogers returns in 'Avengers: Doomsday'" and a countdown began toward the film's release in Dec. 2026.
The teaser was also released online on the 23rd (local time), drawing a heated response from Marvel fans.
According to U.S. outlet Variety, the teaser is one of a series produced in multiple installments, and additional videos focusing on different characters will be released over the coming weeks.
Chris Evans began portraying Steve Rogers in 2011's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' and played the role in numerous Marvel films; his final appearance in 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' featured an elderly Steve passing Captain America's shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) before departing. He had chosen to return to the past and live again with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
Earlier this year, Chris Evans denied comeback rumors in a promotional interview for his film 'The Materialist,' saying "I will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday." But his return was made official through the teaser trailer, raising fans' expectations.
Meanwhile, the title and major details of 'Avengers: Doomsday,' including a new villain, were first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. The biggest news was the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU not as Iron Man but as Doctor Doom (Doctor Doom). Robert Downey Jr. began with 2008's 'Iron Man' as Tony Stark and portrayed the Iron Man hero in 10 Marvel films.
However, Iron Man died in 'Avengers: Endgame,' and with that film Robert Downey Jr. also left Marvel's superhero films. Still, many hoped for his return, and the role of Victor Von Doom is expected to become the most terrifying villain in Marvel Comics history.
Meanwhile, 'Avengers: Doomsday' opens on Dec. 18, 2026.
