Singer Jeong Dong-won is set to fulfill the duty of defense by enlisting voluntarily in the Marine Corps in February next year, right after graduating from high school.
According to agency Showplay Entertainment on the 24th, Jeong Dong-won, who is attending Seoul Performing Arts High School, will join the Marine Corps on Feb. 23 next year. To prevent congestion on the day of entry, the agency said it will not hold any official events and politely asked fans to refrain from visiting the site.
Born in 2007, Jeong Dong-won has consistently expressed a strong willingness to enlist in the Marine Corps through his YouTube channel and other platforms. In particular, in June, he released a video meeting with Oh Jong-hyuk, a former Marine, to seek advice, showing concrete plans and passion for military enlistment.
In that video, he said, "If you are born a man, I want to serve in the military with pride," and noted that, influenced by his father, who served in the 707th Special Mission Group, he developed a positive view of the military.
Jeong Dong-won, who debuted in 2019, rose to nationwide popularity as a star by placing fifth in Mr. Trot in 2020. Since then, he has built a diligent image by balancing his studies and singing career.
