Actor Lee Jaein portrayed a mature look in the Man Noblesse January issue photo spread. On Dec. 23, Lee Jaein, who unveiled the Wave original series "Concrete Market," calmly conveyed in this photo spread and interview her attitude toward acting, her concerns, and the direction she plans to take as an actor marking her 13th debut anniversary.
Lee Jaein, who debuted in second grade of elementary school and has spent a long time on sets, said, "The set is the space that raised me and the place that holds my time the longest," and, "I keep doing this work because I really love film." She said she tries to look at herself coldly every time she faces a project, adding, "If I did well, I think that was the best I could do at the time, and if I was lacking, I become correspondingly stricter." She described changes in her acting with the expression "stepwise growth."
Lee Jaein released the film "Concrete Market" on Dec. 3 and then on Dec. 23 released a disaster drama of the same name (Wave original). Recalling when she first encountered the project, she said, "The worldbuilding was strong and interesting, and I felt the most important thing was how convincingly I could make the character 'Hee-ro' I was playing exist in reality." Regarding the difference between film and drama, she explained, "In drama, the emotional line and subplots are dealt with more deeply, so it will be fun to compare the two versions."
She also mentioned her chemistry with actor Hong Kyung, who plays the role of 'Tae-jin' in the film. Lee Jaein said, "From the first time I read the script, I thought this role could only be Hong Kyung," and added, "I was impressed by the actor's 'mental stamina' that keeps tension even in a tense environment."
Meanwhile, she has steadily maintained interest in directing in addition to acting. Last year she completed a work through a short film directing workshop, and she is currently preparing to submit it to film festivals. She added, "Directing made me realize firsthand that it is about being responsible for a world from beginning to end."
