Paik Jong-won, CEO of Theborn Korea, and BTS member Jin jointly invested in and founded Jinislamp, and its liquor distributor Baeksuldoga was cleared of allegations of violating the country-of-origin labeling law.
According to legal sources, on the 23rd the Hongseong branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office recently notified Baeksuldoga corporation and one related person, who had been referred on suspicion of violating the country-of-origin labeling law, that they would not be prosecuted due to insufficient evidence.
Baeksuldoga is the liquor distributor that distributes Jinislamp's liquor brand Aigin. In particular, Jinislamp drew attention as a liquor company jointly invested in and founded by CEO Paik Jong-won and BTS member Jin.
In this context, in September an allegation arose that Baeksuldoga had violated the country-of-origin labeling law. An internet user filed a complaint through the national petition system, claiming that Aigin's country-of-origin labeling was incorrect. The complainant at the time argued that the country-of-origin labeling for the plum-flavored and watermelon-flavored varieties of Aigin's highball tonic could mislead consumers.
However, prosecutors recognized that Baeksuldoga's product detail pages stated that the plum concentrate was foreign, from Chile, and the watermelon concentrate was foreign, from the United States, thereby disclosing the origin of the foreign ingredients. They also found that each product was actually produced in Yesan County, Chungcheongnam-do. Accordingly, they judged it difficult to acknowledge the alleged offenses.
