"Gonyangmi balanced on her head while praying"… the steadfast love of Shin Mina and Kim Woo-bin as told by Venerable Beopryun
Actors Shin Mina and Kim Woo-bin became husband and wife after a 10-year romance, and the sermon delivered by Venerable Beopryun, who officiated their wedding, has been released and moved many. In particular, news of the devoted love Shin Mina showed during Kim Woo-bin's illness moved many people's hearts.
Shin Mina and Kim Woo-bin held their wedding on the 20th at 7 p.m. at the Shilla Hotel Dynasty Hall in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was private, attended only by family members from both sides and close acquaintances, and Kim Woo-bin's close friend Lee Kwangsoo hosted the event to celebrate the couple's new beginning. The officiant was Venerable Beopryun, who has a deep connection with Kim Woo-bin.
On the 23rd, the Jeongto Society website released the sermon Venerable Beopryun delivered at the couple's wedding. The Jeongto Society said, "Kim Woo-bin personally came to the monk and asked him to officiate," and "during his 2017 battle with nasopharyngeal cancer, he received great mental help through counseling with the monk, and Shin Mina also gained great strength from the monk's consolation while caregiving," explaining the background for asking him to officiate.
In particular, Venerable Beopryun drew attention in his sermon by mentioning the love Shin Mina showed while Kim Woo-bin was fighting illness. The monk said, "When Woo-bin was in poor health and going through a difficult time, Mina carried gonyangmi on her head and went to Namsan in Gyeongju to pray before Gwanse-eum Bosal, crossing religious boundaries to pray together," and "It was because of that sincere heart that the two stand here holding hands today," he said.
He went on to say, "Mina is warm-hearted and kind, and for a long time she has consistently supported helping poor children and North Korean defectors," and "That Woo-bin regained his health and the two became husband and wife is truly the result of a deep bond," adding remarks that made the venue solemn.
Venerable Beopryun told the couple, "Marriage should not be something that binds each other but a relationship that makes you freer," and "Respecting and understanding each other's differences is true love." He also emphasized, "Love comes with responsibility. As you two receive the love of many people, you must live bearing the corresponding social responsibilities."
Meanwhile, before their wedding, Shin Mina and Kim Woo-bin reportedly practiced sharing from the start by donating 300 million won to several organizations, including the peace, human rights and refugee support center Good Friends, founded by Venerable Beopryun.
