Actor Hyunbin's drama comeback after marrying Son Ye-jin and his first OTT original series appearance, "Made In Korea," is one day away from being revealed.
Disney+ new original series "Made In Korea" is set in 1970s Korea, when chaos and leap coexisted, and tells the story of a man who seeks to use the state as a revenue model to rise to the pinnacle of wealth and power, 'Baek Gi-tae' (Hyunbin), and a prosecutor who pursues him with terrifying determination to the brink, 'Jang Geon-young' (Jung Woosung), confronting huge events that span the era. Hyunbin plays 'Baek Gi-tae,' a director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency and a man chasing ambition. It is a new challenge for a veteran actor marking his 21st year since debut, and with a historically dramatic character transformation promised, here are three viewing points for "Made In Korea."
#1 Hyunbin wearing ambition, a noir transformation by the master of intensity
In a previously released interview, Hyunbin described 'Baek Gi-tae' as "the character in whom desire is expressed most directly since my debut." As he said, 'Baek Gi-tae' is a dual figure who by day protects the center of power as an agent of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency and by night expands his influence through smuggling. Known for building a distinctive image in the romance genre, Hyunbin this time dons a weighty narrative through period drama and noir genres to show a completely new face.
#2 the winning combination of a handsome man: pomade + suit complete the charisma
To convey the symbolic nature of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency agent character, Hyunbin adjusted details from physique to styling. Meticulously slicked pomade hair, a solid build, and a sharply cut suit silhouette maximize a cold charisma and complete the intimidating presence of 'Baek Gi-tae.' Ironically, this cold styling further highlights a classic handsome beauty, strengthening the character's duality and charm. His styling, which will unfold over six episodes, is also a point of anticipation.
#3 the spectrum of relationships drawn with various characters
Hyunbin has shown broad chemistry in each work by moving between romance and bromance. In this work he will form complex relationships with various characters, including intense confrontation with 'Jang Geon-young (Jung Woosung),' brotherly affection with 'Baek Gi-hyun (Woo Do Hwan),' and a strategic alliance with 'Ikeda Yuji (Won Jian).' How each character's narrative leads 'Baek Gi-tae' to make choices, and what emotional tones Hyunbin will show within that, are cited as viewing points that will drive immersion in the work.
"Made In Korea" will be released worldwide for the first time on Disney+ on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
