The fallout from the so-called "injection auntie gate" sparked by comedian Park Narae spread to broadcaster Jun Hyun-moo, but Jun Hyun-moo's side actively defended him by even releasing medical records.
On the 23rd, the Gangnam Police Agency in Seoul said they planned to look into whether there was a violation of the Medical Service Act in relation to past scenes of Jun Hyun-moo receiving an intravenous drip in a vehicle. This followed renewed online attention to footage of Jun Hyun-moo receiving an IV in a car on a past variety show, raising suspicions that it might have been an "illegal procedure."
The scene in question was revealed on the January 2016 broadcast of the MBC variety show I Live Alone. At the time, Jun Hyun-moo, who was going back and forth to the hospital for treatment of vocal cord nodules amid a busy schedule, shared a photo of himself receiving an IV in a car in a group chat, and the image aired on the program. At the time it became a topic as the "passionate life of a broadcaster," and there was no particular controversy.
However, as recent allegations emerged that Park Narae had been involved in illegal medical procedures as an "injection auntie," Jun Hyun-moo, who appeared on the same program, also came under suspicion. In response, Jun Hyun-moo's agency SM C&C told OSEN on the 19th, "Jun Hyun-moo's throat condition was poor at the time, and he received diagnosis, prescriptions and treatment from the attending physician at the hospital," adding, "Because of the filming schedule there was insufficient time, and under the doctor's judgment he completed treatment while moving, parts of which were exposed on the broadcast." They went on to emphasize, "All medical acts were carried out in the hospital according to the medical staff's judgment, and there was absolutely no personal summons of medical personnel or reception of illegal procedures."
Nevertheless, as suspicions continued over the "vehicle IV" scene, one netizen filed a complaint requesting verification of the facts, and the police launched an investigation. Jun Hyun-moo's side went a step further and took the extraordinary measure of releasing his medical records. SM C&C said in an additional statement on the 23rd, "This matter involves medical treatment from about nine years ago, and the party needed to visit the hospital in person to obtain the records," adding, "We are presenting objective materials and issuing an official statement once again."
The agency released copies of Jun Hyun-moo's 2016 medical records, explaining, "It is confirmed that he received official medical treatment at the hospital on Jan. 14, 20 and 26, 2016. The dates and times of treatment, patient name, diagnosis, symptoms, and hospital name are all recorded." It added that copies of the hospital's revenue records confirmed, "that the treatment in question was properly processed as an expense with official medical fee receipts."
Regarding medical waste disposal, they said, "After the IV treatment on Jan. 20, 2016, following the medical staff's guidance, the medical waste that had been stored was returned when he revisited the hospital on Jan. 26."
SM C&C said, "The treatment in question centered on antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and gastrointestinal medication for diagnoses such as pharyngitis, laryngitis and gastroesophageal reflux, and the IV was a medical measure to support that treatment," adding, "Through all the materials we reiterate that the treatment at the time was a lawful medical treatment carried out at a medical institution under the judgment of medical staff." It added, "The current allegations are unfounded, and we will sincerely cooperate with fact-checking procedures by relevant agencies."
Meanwhile, despite the controversy, Jun Hyun-moo received the grand prize at the 2025 KBS Entertainment Awards. In his acceptance remarks he said, "Entertainers must make others laugh even when they are having a hard time," and he revealed his father's recent illness, which resonated deeply. Alongside the honor of winning the grand prize came the resurfaced "vehicle IV" allegations. Jun Hyun-moo released his medical records and moved quickly to explain, clearly signaling his intent to confront the controversy head-on.
