Actor Lee Ji-hoon and his wife Ayane revealed that they had a miscarriage of their second child.
On the 23rd, a video titled "Pregnancy and..." was uploaded to the Lee Ji-hoon Ayane's Jia Life channel.
That day Lee Ji-hoon said cautiously, "Many people are curious and looking forward to it, and some people congratulated us, and there are Ruby fans who have been waiting a lot for Ru-hee's sibling, but sadly this time we could not meet Ru-hee's sibling."
Ayane said, "To put it bluntly, at about six weeks we could not hear a heartbeat. After that we completely miscarried." Fetal heartbeats are generally first detected around six weeks of pregnancy. However, they realized it was not a good situation when they could not hear a heartbeat at six weeks, and it appears they ultimately received the result of a miscarriage.
Lee Ji-hoon said, "At first I was too flustered and honestly not feeling well, so it was difficult to tell people right away, but as time passed I am able to speak about it now," and Ayane said, "This was the first time the doctor told (my husband) the word miscarriage."
Lee Ji-hoon said, "At first I couldn't believe it. When we heard that the probability of pregnancy was less than 20% in that situation, I think because we received such an unexpected answer I tried to hold on to hope. Still, that 20% chance sounded to us like a message not to give up. But the doctor said it was almost unlikely. The doctor was trying to put it in a positive way. Although it was a short time, because we were carrying a child in the womb during those six weeks there must have been some internal bonding, so to improve mental and physical health I wanted my wife to have more time to rest."
He said, "After we first met Ru-hee, we looked back on how we lived with Ru-hee and how we prepared; we looked back on the preparation period and are preparing our hearts more carefully and being cautious until the next transfer." Ayane said, "No matter which skilled doctor you go to, you realize once again that this is the realm of God. Because the prognosis was so good. The processes such as the formation of the gestational sac until you hear the heartbeat, the blood test processes, those were all so good. It was astonishing. I was told that hearing a heartbeat doesn't mean you can relax, but because those states were so good I felt maybe it would turn out well."
She continued, "Looking back, I should have protected my body after becoming pregnant. When I was pregnant with Ru-hee I did nothing and lay down watching 10 Netflix shows a day, except for mealtimes. This time I had more morning sickness than with Ru-hee, yet I still took Ru-hee out to play..." she recalled with regret.
Listening to Ayane's story and becoming choked up, Lee Ji-hoon comforted her, "We did everything the same as always. But that's what many pregnant families would do," and Ayane said, "I don't think that's why I miscarried, but I do feel I should have thought more about this child." Then Lee Ji-hoon said, "Personally, what I failed to do was that with Ru-hee, as soon as we knew she was pregnant I used to read Bible passages every morning when I got up, but I didn't do that this time. I got up and left right away in the morning, so I think I didn't treat it as precious, and I reflect on that."
He regretted, saying, "It's not that I really didn't think the child was precious, but looking back there seems to be something I missed." Lee Ji-hoon said, "Next time, keeping certain behaviors by themselves won't determine success or failure, but we should still do our best and make the effort. We will prepare well again as soon as possible and count the days until we meet our next child." He said they plan to continue in vitro fertilization procedures.
Ayane said, "This gives us more time to be the three of us with Ru-hee," adding, "I feel closer. Ru-hee is now 18 months old. It was difficult until then. From about 16 months she suddenly started not eating and not listening, but after the miscarriage when we went home I thought, is this a miracle or what. Should I call Ru-hee's existence a living miracle? I began to feel that way."
Meanwhile, Lee Ji-hoon married 14-years-younger Japanese Ayane Miura in 2021. The two welcomed their first daughter last July through in vitro fertilization, and they are currently working to conceive a second child.
