Amid continuing revelations by former managers surrounding comedian Park Narae, a past broadcast scene of 'holiday cooking' has regained attention and is spreading into another controversy.
Recently, online communities have been reexamining Park Narae's cooking scenes that were revealed on the 2023 Chuseok special broadcast. At the time, Park Narae solidified an image as a 'big spender' and 'cooking expert' with a 'mother-in-law' concept, preparing holiday dishes on an unprecedented scale using large-capacity cooking oil and even sacks of flour. The ingredients and the relentless cooking process, reminiscent of a diner, drew viewers' admiration.
However, the scene has come under scrutiny again as former managers recently alleged that "managers helped significantly with the broadcast cooking and the operation of 'Naraebar'," raising so-called 'cooking proxy' suspicions. In particular, some netizens are focusing on the way Park Narae handles the commercial large-capacity cooking oil in the video.
In the video, Park Narae appears to pour cooking oil using not the usual spout where oil comes out but the opposite 'air inlet vent hole,' and people have suggested, "Anyone who has used large-capacity cooking oil would not be confused by that," and, "If she really cooked often, it would be hard to make that mistake," raising suspicions that the broadcast was staged. Some said, "It seems to align with claims that managers did everything," expressing doubt.
On the other hand, voices warning against premature assumptions are also strong. Counterarguments continue, saying, "Commercial cooking oil has a different structure from household oil, so someone using it for the first time could easily be confused," "It's excessive to conclude she didn't cook based on a single scene," and, "It's close to devil's edit."
This renewed attention is spreading further as it coincides with recent revelations by former managers. The former managers amplified the impact by claiming on a YouTube channel that Park Narae received help from managers for large-capacity holiday jeon cooking and kimchi-making episodes. In response, Park Narae said she is "currently having the raised matters verified through legal procedures" and has refrained from further comment. However, as suspicions continue, scenes from past broadcasts are being recalled one by one. Netizens expressed mixed reactions, saying, "With her image already shaken, anything is bound to be suspected," "Picking apart even trivial scenes is excessive," and, "The truth will be determined by an investigation."
