Actress Kim Minseol announced the arrival of a new villain.
Kim Minseol plays Jin Hong-ju, the deputy manager of Dream Hotel and a tenacious person who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals, in MBC's new daily drama First Man (planning Jang Jae-hoon, director Kang Tae-heum, writers Seo Hyun-joo and An Jin-young, produced by MBC C&I and DK Entertainment).
Jin Hong-ju stood out from her first appearance. In episode 5, Hong-ju, who perfectly pulled off a neat ponytail and a sophisticated office look, was shown thanking Kang Jun-ho (Park Geon Il) for accepting the Dream Hotel chef offer she had made. Throughout the conversation, Hong-ju watched Jun-ho's expressions and words closely to gauge his intentions, yet she did not lose her composure or smile; her demeanor was haughty and elegant, and Kim Minseol's line, "This might get me promoted. Thanks, senior," conveyed Hong-ju's strong obsession with promotion.
In the following episode 6, Hong-ju's anger and grief toward Ma Seorin (Ham Eunjung) exploded, foreshadowing that she will act as an "embodiment of ambition." While Seorin, the successor of Dream Group, was packing luxury shopping bags and a suitcase on her behalf, Hong-ju could not help but hold back tears when she heard Seorin say, "Deputy Jin is nothing but my servant."
The scene in which Hong-ju glares at Ma Dae-chang (Lee Hyo-jeong) and roars, "You call me your servant? You laze around and eat all the time — what right do you have to boss me around?" delivered a fresh shock to viewers because it was 180 degrees different from the calm, rational Hong-ju seen before. Kim Minseol carefully captured Hong-ju's emotions as they change from moment to moment, and her anger performance, filled with long-built resentment and sorrow, captivated viewers' attention.
In addition, Hong-ju emotionally runs wild, lashing out at her mother Yeom San-wol (Kim Seon-hye) with "Why are you still like that, mom? What's something Seorin can do that I couldn't? That brat's position could be mine too," which raised expectations for the new villain Jin Hong-ju's performance.
Kim Minseol is a rising star who gained recognition for her roles as Kang Eun-hye in the drama Cafe Minamdang and Cha Se-hee in the drama The World You Fell Into. First Man is the work in which she takes on her first lead role, and she is expected to heighten the show's immersion each episode by showing a strong presence.
Meanwhile, MBC's new daily drama First Man airs Monday through Friday at 7:05 p.m.
