'Extreme 84' has gained viewers' approval by raising both laughter and immersion after new crew members Lee Eunji and Tsuki joined.
In the recently aired MBC entertainment program 'Extreme 84', comedian Lee Eunji and girl group BILLIE member Tsuki joined as new crew members. As a result, with different characterizations added on top of the theme of an extreme marathon, responses have emerged that the program's distinctive human appeal has become even clearer.
Newly joined Extreme crew members Lee Eunji and Tsuki made their presence felt from their first appearances with starkly contrasting characters. Tsuki showed the traits of a 'tough runner' with fast speed and strong competitiveness, as if determined to run 'even if my legs break.' Her solid fundamental running skills, and an unwavering posture and expression throughout training made even Kian84 nervous, earning her the nickname 'running robot.'
Meanwhile, Lee Eunji carried the mood of the Extreme crew with the candidness of a novice runner and unpredictable reactions. From the interview through training, her unique humor and skits provoked laughter while her sincere ambition to "get out of being a beginner" drew sympathy. Her impromptu lines and back-and-forth with Kian84 and Kwon Hwa Woon, which embarrassed them, elicited responses from viewers such as "thanks to Lee Eunji the atmosphere livens up."
With these two contrasting characters combined, the Extreme crew's journey expanded in a more three-dimensional way. During the training and test runs conducted ahead of France's 'Medoc Marathon', realistic burdens and tensions were exposed amid the laughter. In particular, the scene where Tsuki, wearing a squid costume, showed tears due to uncomfortable clothing and pressure to finish left a deep impression by revealing another side of Tsuki, who had seemed tough.
At that moment Lee Eunji was the first to empathize and stay by her side, and Kian84 also showed his crew leader qualities by offering sincere encouragement amid jokes. Critics say this was the clearest moment that Extreme 84's message of a "race of enduring together," not competition, was revealed.
On the eve of the Medoc Marathon and on race day, the characteristic cheerfulness of 'Extreme 84' was maximized. Faced with a festival-style marathon mixing wine, music and cosplay, Lee Eunji drew laughs calling it "the most painful festival in life," and Tsuki, despite tension and pressure, never gave up her determination to finish, raising the level of immersion. The crew's struggle in an unfamiliar environment where the boundary between festival and race collapsed prompted viewers to respond, "it's funny but serious, so I'm more drawn in."
The crew's scenes of laughter and tears, each running at their own pace, have evoked strong empathy and support from viewers at the same time. The journey of the Extreme crew, whose characters have come to life, airs every Sunday night at 9:10 p.m. <
