Popular idol group Stray Kids (Stray Kids, abbreviated SKZ) and YB will present an unprecedented collaboration stage at MBC's 'Gayo Daejejeon'.
According to OSEN reporting on the 22nd, an unprecedented collaboration between Stray Kids and YB has been arranged. Stray Kids' main vocalist Seungmin and YB are expected to electrify listeners and fans with a special collaboration stage at MBC's 'Gayo Daejejeon', held on the 31st.
Stray Kids is one of the teams that represents K-pop idols, leading a vast fandom not only in Korea but also in the global market. In particular, their concert audience-pulling power is currently regarded as top among K-pop idols. According to Billboard's 'Top Tour 2025' chart released by the U.S. Billboard on the 9th (local time), Stray Kids ranked 10th, the highest among K-pop artists.
They also set unprecedented new records in album sales. From 'ODDINARY', released in March 2022, to the new release 'DO IT', released in November this year, eight consecutive works topped the U.S. Billboard main album chart, the 'Billboard 200'. This is the first record since the U.S. Billboard charts began in 1956. Through this, Stray Kids became the group with the third-most 'Billboard 200' No. 1 albums, after the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
Naturally, Stray Kids, one of the top choices to book for year-end music award shows, is listed among the main lineup for this year's MBC 'Gayo Daejejeon'. Among them, senior musicians and one of the legends of Korean rock, YB, and Stray Kids' main vocalist Seungmin will stage a collaboration. The meeting of two teams representing K-pop idols and Korean rock raises curiosity about what kind of stage they will present.
According to broadcasting officials, this unprecedented collaboration stage was arranged at YB's request. YB had long been watching Stray Kids' activities closely; during the 38th Golden Disc Awards held on Jan. 6 last year, while YB was performing 'Dambaegage Agassi' and 'I Am a Butterfly', they approached junior musicians in the audience and were reportedly impressed by Stray Kids, who responded enthusiastically. It was hinted that when planning the 'Gayo Daejejeon' collaboration, Stray Kids naturally came up in conversation.
YB is, without question, the most popular rock band in the Korean music market. They originally started as the Yun Do-hyun Band centered on vocalist Yun Do-hyun, but they began using the name YB in 2003 and officially changed the team name to YB in 2005. Notably, YB debuted in 1996 and this year marks their 30th anniversary since debut. In the meantime, Yun Do-hyun was diagnosed with a rare cancer, gastrointestinal lymphoma, in 2021, but he continued treatment secretly and was later declared cured. As YB returns from that, expectations are building for how the seasoned presence of their 30th anniversary will pair with the vigor of Stray Kids, who debuted in 2017 and swept the world in eight years.
'Gayo Daejejeon' is one of MBC's year-end award ceremonies and has continued as a representative celebration of terrestrial broadcast music award shows. This year, especially marking its 20th anniversary, it has drawn attention by announcing an upgraded scale, fresh composition and combinations of top artists under the theme 'Gayo Daejejeon—Style'. '2025 MBC Gayo Daejejeon' will be broadcast live on the 31st at 8:50 p.m., hosted by SHINee's Minho, ALLDAY PROJECT's Annie and singer-actor Hwang Min-hyun.
