Comedian Cho Hye-ryeon spoke candidly about parenting.
On the 20th, a video titled "I didn't expect you'd say this! A next-level senior working mom Cho Hye-ryeon Lee Hye-jung" was uploaded to the Working Mom Lee Hyun-yi channel.
That day, with senior working mom Cho Hye-ryeon and close friend Lee Hye-jung appearing as grants, Cho Hye-ryeon asked, "Why did you call me?" In response, Lee Hyun-yi asked, "All three of us are working moms. But you started earlier, you're from an older generation. Wouldn't it have been harder then?"
Cho Hye-ryeon candidly said, "Now you can't even call them 'mom' because the kids don't contact you. Now I'm just an ajumma. They're all independent, and so what I can give you is stories about the past."
Lee Hyun-yi asked, "But I heard that once you have a child, that child remains your baby even when they turn 60. Isn't that the case?" Cho Hye-ryeon replied, "If you do that, the child can go wrong. Looking at my mother's son, even at 48, the mother is a helicopter. There are eight people, and she only circles around him. She's 84. So I thought when the child becomes an adult, you have to let them go," sharing the insight she gained from her younger brother.
Lee Hyun-yi asked, "Emotionally?" and Cho Hye-ryeon emphasized, "No, physically too. Body and mind." Later Lee Hyun-yi asked, "I see you keep yourself busy with work. How do you maintain balance?" Cho Hye-ryeon answered directly, "I don't do housework," prompting laughter.
She said, "There's no reason to do housework because there are no kids," and Lee Hyun-yi asked again, "That's now, but what were the kids like when they were little?"
Cho Hye-ryeon recalled, "In my case, when the kids wanted to play, I read picture books and did my best to act like Gollum. The kids can't forget that. No one entertains them as well as their mother, so they ask me to read it like that. But when I'm too tired, I fall asleep while reading. Then the kids say, 'Open your eyes,' and roll their eyes back."
She continued, "If I could go back, I would reduce work a lot and spend a great deal of time with the children. I miss those days so much. Once the family went to Switzerland for a trip. In the car then, the child performed to show something cool to his mother. I still can't forget that. When I miss him so much and want to see him, I recall him as if recalling a scene from a movie. Then I cry. I miss that child so much. Not the child now," she said, growing tearful as she longed for the past from 20 years ago. Lee Hyun-yi also said, "Listening to you, I feel like I'm going to cry too. I know what it is," reddening her eyes and adding to the poignancy.
