'2025 Melon Music Awards' Big Bang G-DRAGON won three of the four grand prizes as the artist of 2025.
On the 20th at Gocheok Sky Dome, the '2025 Melon Music Awards' (Wavve, Melon) ceremony was held. That day, idols spanning second to third generations including G-DRAGON and Jennie, along with BOYNEXTDOOR, NCT WISH, RIIZE, ILLIT, Hearts2Hearts, KiiiKiii, and IVE appeared, filling a glamorous time from the red carpet to the main stage.
G-DRAGON from his entrance won this year's songwriter award, 'best songwriter.' G-DRAGON said, I don't think there is any greater honor than receiving a lyricist and composer award as a singer. First of all, the album I made this year after coming back is the first album I made after leaving YG, where I had been for a long time. I thank The Black Label, YG, and the many artists who helped. Thank you for the love, he said, adding, I fervently hope that in the future more artists will become best songwriters, encouraging other singers.
G-DRAGON drew much attention by releasing a solo album for the first time in eight years. 'Home Sweet Home' is a popular song that also drew great popularity among baseball fans, and Big Bang vocalist Taeyang's feature helped complete a richer song. Also, as an album G-DRAGON made after leaving YG, public attention was half expectation and half concern. However, G-DRAGON's album gained great popularity even for its tracks, and G-DRAGON demonstrated his prominence by appearing on variety shows with producer Kim Tae-ho.
On the day, G-DRAGON performed several songs including 'Power,' 'Home Sweet Home,' and 'Ppiddakhage.' Although G-DRAGON is known for elaborate stage production, some viewed his performance with concern because of recent live-singing controversies during his world tour and on variety shows. In particular, during the performance of 'Ppiddakhage,' G-DRAGON went down to the singer's seat and mingled with junior artists, handed the microphone to Zico to sing, and then wrapped his own scarf around Zico, appearing to express gratitude, which puzzled some observers.
However, the owner of the album most listened to and talked about this year was G-DRAGON. 'Album of the year,' 'artist of the year,' and 'best song of the year' all went to G-DRAGON. Of the four grand prizes, the 'record of the year' went to Jennie for the album 'Ruby.'
G-DRAGON said, There were many new things I tried for the first time, so it took a long time to make this album, but I wanted the album title to sound dignified, and although difficult, the meaning is actually 'a transcendent self,' a self that goes beyond something, but personally it was kind of like a chant, expressing his trembling feelings. He added, 'Home Sweet Home' is track one on my album, and because Big Bang members joined, I feel like I spent a warm year. I hope you all spend time warmly with your families and friends, happy new year, merry Christmas, all love, thank you!, showing him holding back tears.
