World-renowned supermodel Anok Yai (28) revealed that she was diagnosed with a congenital lung defect and opened up about a serious health battle.
On the 20th (local time), Anok Yai posted on her social media, "I have been quietly fighting this fight for the past year," saying, "Because of a congenital defect, my heart was working excessively, and as a result my lungs were being slowly damaged." He also released videos and photos taken during his hospital recovery.
Yai said, "Because I lived most of my life without symptoms, I had no idea," and explained, "It started with a persistent cough and worsened to chest pain, coughing up blood, and at times moments when it was even hard to breathe." She added, "I thought I could overcome it with work, that I could endure it by running on, but in the end my health forced me to stop."
He said that even as his condition worsened he continued working and that, "in the process of finding the right doctor and timing, I realized I could no longer postpone it," so he decided to get treatment. Yai ultimately recently underwent robotic lung surgery, and he said the surgery ended successfully.
Anok Yai expressed gratitude, saying, "Thanks to Dr. Robert Cherfolio and the medical staff, I have been given more time." She also thanked the medical team who detected the disease early, the nursing staff at New York University Langone Health (NYU Langone Health) who oversaw her treatment, and the family and friends who stood by her immediately after her recovery.
Robotic thoracic surgery is known as a minimally invasive procedure that removes diseased lung tissue and surrounding lymph nodes. He said, "I am recovering now, but I will definitely return," clearly expressing his intention to resume activities.
Meanwhile, Anok Yai is at the peak of her career, having recently been named 2025 model of the year at a British fashion awards ceremony. Fans and industry figures have continued to offer support following her revelation behind the glamorous runway.
