Broadcaster Choi Hwa-jung candidly revealed the behind-the-scenes story of her radio departure after 27 years.
On the 19th broadcast of SBS variety show My Grumpy Secretary (hereinafter "My Grumpy Secretary"), the "eternal wild rose girl" Choi Hwa-jung appeared as the eleventh "my star(my star)".
On the day, Lee Seo-jin asked, "I heard Kwang-gyu hyung said that the senior was fired from the radio. Which is correct?" In response, Choi Hwa-jung laughed as if embarrassed and shot back, "Would I be fired from SBS?" making the set erupt in laughter.
Choi Hwa-jung soon opened up, saying, "I'll tell you honestly." She said, "I started YouTube and my subscribers increased to 760,000. Still, I thought I should continue radio."
She continued, "But due to the reorganization, all the staff changed. It was hard to part with the writers who had worked with me for decades, so I agonized over it," and confessed, "In such a very difficult situation, I suddenly thought, 'Is it time for me to stop now?'"
Choi Hwa-jung said, "I had done it for 27 years, so I naturally thought I should reach 30 years. But life doesn't always go as planned," and explained, "I talked enough with the radio team and the CEO, and in that process everyone willingly understood."
About the final broadcast she recalled, "On the last day we even invited the former staff and wrapped it up together."
Meanwhile, Choi Hwa-jung was picked as the DJ of Choi Hwa-jung's Power Time with the launch of SBS Power FM in 1996 and is a representative radio host who kept the same time slot for a remarkable 27 years. After leaving the program last year, she is currently active, moving between YouTube and variety shows.<
