"I Live Alone" filled the gap after Park Na-rae and SHINee's Key left with the daily lives of announcer Go Gang-yong and SHINee's Minho.
On the 19th, the MBC variety show I Live Alone aired footage showing announcer Go Gang-yong and his mother visiting his son's rented room, and SHINee's Minho taking a romantic Gangwon-do course trip with his marine comrades.
Coincidentally, recently on I Live Alone core members Park Na-rae and SHINee's Key left one after another, creating a void. In the first episode aired after that, Go Gang-yong and SHINee's Minho filled that empty spot.
According to ratings company Nielsen Korea on the 20th, the household rating for I Live Alone aired the previous day was 5.5% in the Seoul metropolitan area, ranking first among Friday variety shows. Also, the key 2049 rating, a major indicator for advertisers and a measure of channel competitiveness, was 2.1% (Seoul metropolitan area), ranking first among Friday variety shows.
The "highest one minute" was the scene of Minho stoking fiery determination before the Baekdudaegan Seonjerong mountain march with his marine comrades. The resemblance between Go Gang-yong and his mother, like fish-shaped pastries, also attracted attention. For his mother, Go Gang-yong showed a warm sonly side by playing music she liked in the car and taking careful care of her. Upon arriving at the rented room he tried to divert his mother's attention, but despite his endless defenses he could not stop her touch. His mother looked around the rented room, cleaned various spots, and even gifted handmade straw brooms and fabric art frames as interior items.
In particular, the sumptuous side dishes his mother had packed up from Gunsan surprised everyone. Go Gang-yong reserved a fine-dining restaurant for his mother and prepared a surprise birthday gift. He confessed that three years ago his mother battled colon cancer and said, "Before that I was an unfilial son who called once every three months and went home once every six months. After that I went home once a week. I thought I should see her more often. Since then I think I have made a lot of efforts," sharing his self-reflection and current feelings.
Also, through I Live Alone, the sight of a mother watching her son's activities with pride and cheering him on, and the touching scene of the affectionate son who became a dutiful child and the mother wiping her eyes, moved the audience. Go Gang-yong said, "I want to give her all the best things in the world," expressing his love for his mother.
Meanwhile, SHINee's Minho enjoyed a romantic Gangwon-do trip with his marine comrades, stoking comradeship. Minho and his fellow marines, who had shared joy and sorrow in the marines, showed playful, brotherlike behavior that warmed hearts. Minho drew attention by revealing, "I was the marine version of Oh Eun-young," saying he gave counseling to many comrades during his military service.
Minho and his marine comrades began the trip with a Baekdudaegan Seonjerong mountain march to recall past hardships. Wearing marine combat boots and marching to the marine cadence, they climbed the winter mountain and warmed themselves at the summit with spicy cup noodles. Despite the tough hike, everyone admired Minho's undisturbed demeanor. They indulged their competitive spirit in a 'coffee-making' challenge while getting hit by snow. The final finale was a Gangwon-do feast enjoyed by the sea. They eased the cold and hunger with delicious food such as grilled clams, sashimi, and spicy fish stew while sharing endless memory talks.
Minho said, "I think I have lived a page of youth that will never come again. With this strength I will try to overcome hard times. If you actually told me to go again, I could go again," then added with a laugh, "as a sergeant!"
