Kim Joo-ha revealed the reality of her ex-husband's affair, assault and child abuse.
On the night of the 20th, MBN 'Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night' episode 5 featured psychiatrist and medical doctor Oh Eun-young, who appeared and listened to Kim Joo-ha's personal story and provided counseling.
That day Kim Joo-ha opened up, saying, "So many speculative articles have come out, so I thought I should talk about my private life here today," and "I wanted to talk with someone who knows me better than I do, so I invited Dr. Oh Eun-young." He then calmly recounted that before their marriage her husband had married while hiding the fact he was divorced, and that even after the truth came out the marriage continued with repeated affairs and violence.
Kim Joo-ha said, "Even after all the facts were revealed I wondered, 'Could this also be my fault?'" and eventually could not contain her emotions and cried.
Kim Joo-ha for the first time also detailed her husband's assaults. She confessed, "When I presented evidence of his affair, my husband swung his fists instead of speaking," and "My eardrum was ruptured by two assaults, damaging hearing in one ear, and once I fell and suffered traumatic intracranial hemorrhage." She recalled at the time, "I collapsed an hour before a news broadcast and went to the hospital; the doctor asked, 'Shall I report this?' but I said I was fine then."
The assaults did not stop afterward. Kim Joo-ha said, "I was once taken to the emergency room after being severely beaten for not wearing clothes he bought me," and added that Oh Eun-young said, "I spoke directly with the emergency room medical staff and remember the situation clearly. Her neck was severely strangled," further shocking the studio.
Kim Joo-ha said, "I could endure the violence inflicted on me, but I could never tolerate the moment he even laid a hand on the child." She revealed, "Because the child came out late while playing hide-and-seek, he grabbed the child's collar and slapped the child repeatedly, the sounds were loud enough that people tried to intervene," and "he dragged the child who had gotten into the car first back and took the child to the bathroom and assaulted the child," which left the studio solemn.
Kim Joo-ha said that when she told her husband she wanted a divorce he wrote eight letters of remorse and apologized, and because of that they had a second child and continued the marriage, but the violence and affairs eventually repeated. She said, "I tried to keep the family until the end, but the same thing happened again," revealing deep wounds.
Meanwhile, Kim Joo-ha is a former news anchor representing Korea, born in 1973. She filed for divorce in 2013 citing her husband's assault, and legally divorced in 2014 after 11 years of marriage.<
