The Korean Actors Association announced on the 19th that actor Yun Seok-hwa had died, then corrected the announcement.
The theater actors association said in a corrected press release that day, "We urgently correct that the news of actor Yun Seok-hwa's death is not true." Earlier, the association issued a press release around 5 a.m. that day saying Yun Seok-hwa died around 9 p.m. on the 18th.
However, the association later explained, "Actor Yun Seok-hwa is battling a brain tumor and is in a very critical condition, but it has been finally confirmed that Yun is currently breathing with the care of family."
The association added, "We deeply bow our heads in apology to the family and the fans who care for the actor for causing confusion without going through accurate fact-checking," and said, "Above all, we keenly feel our deep responsibility for causing great hurt to the family who wish for a recovery."
Yun Seok-hwa took the stage in the play "Hamlet" in Jul. 2022, underwent surgery for a malignant brain tumor in Oct. of that year, and has been undergoing treatment to this day.
