The Korean Actors Association issued an urgent correction on the morning of the 19th, saying, "We correct that the news of actress Yoon Seok-hwa's passing is not true," and "We sincerely apologize for causing confusion without verifying the exact facts."
Earlier, the association released a press release at about 5 a.m. that day announcing that Yoon Seok-hwa had passed away on the evening of the 18th at about 9 p.m. while surrounded by family. However, subsequent confirmation revealed that Yoon Seok-hwa is still battling illness under the care of her family.
The association said, "Actress Yoon Seok-hwa is currently battling a brain tumor and her condition is serious, but it has been finally confirmed that she is maintaining respiration at her family's side."
It added, "We bow our heads and deeply apologize to the family members and fans who cherish the actress for causing confusion by failing to verify the exact facts," and "Above all, we deeply feel responsible for causing great hurt to the family who wish for her recovery."
Yoon Seok-hwa devoted herself to treatment after finishing her appearance in the play "Hamlet" in July 2022. Even after undergoing surgery for a malignant brain tumor in October that year, she did not give up her passion for the stage, and in 2023 she made a guest appearance of about five minutes in "Toccata" at LG Arts Center Seoul, receiving great applause from the audience.
Born in Seoul in 1956, Yoon Seok-hwa debuted in the theater world in 1975 with the play "Honey Taste." She went on to appear in many works such as "Agnes of God," "Hamlet," and "Letter to My Daughter," establishing herself as a stage actress representing the era.
