Exhuma wave after wave... Park Narae, past essay containing a 'ringerju' recipe reexamined amid 'injection aunt' allegations
Various allegations surrounding broadcaster Park Narae have been spreading day after day, and the drinking culture described in an essay she published in the past has resurfaced, making it difficult for the controversy to subside.
Park Narae published the essay Welcome Naraeba! in December 2017. At the time, she adapted the much-talked-about variety show concept "Naraeba" into a book, attracting attention by introducing behind-the-scenes of bar operations and various snack and drink recipes such as "gubuju" and "ringerju." In the book, she unabashedly introduced expressions such as "The goal of a drinking party is to send one person to the grave or send two people to a good place. Let's all go to a good place" and "I often use the word trash when I play, and I hear the word trash a lot."
However, as Park Narae has recently been embroiled in various allegations involving her former manager, including abuse of power, proxy prescriptions, illegal medical practices and embezzlement, her past remarks and records have come back into focus. Park Narae denied the former manager's claims in full but said she "accepts responsibility," withdrew from all programs she was appearing on and announced a suspension of activities.
Accordingly, major programs featuring her, such as MBC I Live Alone, Rescue! Homes and tvN Amazing Saturday, have edited out Park Narae's portions, in what has been called an effort to erase Park Narae.
But the controversy did not stop there. Later, allegations grew that Park Narae received IV drips or was provided controlled substances by an alleged "injection aunt" who does not have a medical license, widening the fallout. In response, Park Narae refrained from detailed explanations, saying, "We are calmly confirming the facts of the matters currently raised and are proceeding with legal procedures. I will not make additional public remarks or explanations during that process."
In particular, in the final statement video released on the 16th, Park Narae, without apology or explanation, said with a somber expression, "This matter is not a personal emotion or a relationship issue but a matter that should be objectively verified through official procedures," which some critics said only raised public doubts. Meanwhile, as the essay that even included a "ringerju" recipe was summoned again, online reactions saying "wave after wave, it gets Exhuma" have continued, along with criticism and disappointment directed at Park Narae.
