"If we" Moon Ga-young asked that people view her shocking costume, which surprised the public, as part of a process of finding the self.
On the afternoon of the 19th, an interview with Moon Ga-young, the lead actress of the film "If We," took place at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno District, Seoul.
The film "If We" (director Kim Do-young, distributed by SHOWBOX, provided by KC Ventures Co., Ltd.·K-Wave Media, produced by Covenant Pictures Co., Ltd.) is a relatable romantic drama in which Eun-ho and Jeong-won, who loved each other passionately, accidentally reunite after 10 years and unfold traces of memory. It is a Korean remake of the original Chinese film "Us and Them" (2018) adapted to Korean sensibilities.
Kim Do-young, who was noted for his delicate emotional direction in "Kim Ji-young, Born 1982" (2019), returns with a new film that raises expectations for the dense acting chemistry and poignant rapport between Koo Kyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young. It realistically captures the brilliant moments of youth in their 20s and the emotional changes of the two people when they meet again 10 years later.
Moon Ga-young played Jeong-won, a university student who, despite the hardships of living in Seoul, keeps moving forward step by step and grows into a mature career woman after a breakup.
Moon Ga-young, who debuted in the 2006 film "The Teacher's Gratitude," has mainly active in dramas such as "The Great Seducer," "The Man's Memory," "True Beauty," "The Interest of Love," "Delightfully Deceitful," "My Dearest Nemesis," and "Law and The City." Through this film "If We," she returns to the screen after nine years and takes on her first romantic film since her debut.
Marking her 20th anniversary as an actress next year, Moon Ga-young said, "Fans tell me that I first filmed a movie in 2006, and every time they say that I still don't really feel it," adding, "I still don't really know acting, I want to do it well and I don't get tired of it. When I was young I never thought 'I'll stop at a certain age,' I just kept doing what I liked and came this far. I think it's really lucky to have found what I wanted to do at a young age."
Moon Ga-young started as a child actor and successfully transformed into an adult actress, and recently her daring fashion moves, such as airport lingerie looks, became a big topic.
Asked, "Is this meant to show an image opposite to your child actor image?" she said, "It was not a choice made to break away from an image. Having acted for a long time since I was young, I am also discovering my self through acting. That exists in the process. In a way, that could be something that child actors have."
She added, "I am still learning through trial and error what suits me and what is good or bad. I love taking on challenges. And I love fashion. I'm still like that," and smiled, saying, "Many people are surprised by that fashion, but they say it suits me. I think you have to try things to know. I hope you see it as part of that process."
Meanwhile, "If We" opens on the 31st.
