Group STAYC Yoon captivated viewers with her bubbly MZ charm and engaging wit.
Yoon appeared as a guest on MBC variety show Radio Star on the 17th, leaving an impression with her fresh character and steady talk timing.
That day, Yoon introduced herself as "Shim Ja-yoon," a character from the web variety show Office Workers, and drew laughs from her first greeting. In particular, she showed affection for the "seat No. 4," which has produced many variety stars, and candidly said, "My left side is a little prettier than the front," turning the studio into a sea of laughter. At the same time, she jokingly added, "I briefly entertained the desire to rise to that seat someday," raising the atmosphere with playful banter.
Praised by the hosts for her Western facial features, Yoon shared behind-the-scenes details, saying, "In my early debut days, if I just kept my mouth shut, people thought I wasn't Korean." She went on to reveal, "I'm from Gwangju metropolitan city, so I use a bit of dialect," adding a charm that contrasted with her looks. She also showed confidence by naming her lips as her favorite feature.
Calling herself a "variety rookie," Yoon teased that she had a "golden card" personal skill, but she performed a somewhat awkward eye trick that produced unexpected laughs. Even without a big reaction, her self-satisfied expression only amplified her cuteness and highlighted Yoon's natural charm.
Recalling the audition for Office Workers, Yoon candidly said, "It was my first acting audition, and I was very surprised because the scale was unusually large." She added, "I was nervous at first thinking I had to act, but when I changed my mind to think of it as variety filming, I felt much more comfortable," explaining, "I did it with the desire to make the people in front of me laugh, and that seemed to be seen positively."
She especially impressed by spontaneously and convincingly reenacting the role of an "MZ rookie whose passion cools quickly." Yoon added, "My real personality is also one where passion flares up quickly and then dies down, so it was easy to act." She also shared a clumsy episode about learning how to use a printer for the role but forgetting it soon and needing the writers' help, which added to the laughs.
Her knack for catching viral memes shone through as a "meme president." Yoon heated up the set with Kim Yong-myeong by performing the "smooth, smooth" and "hip communication" dances, and impressed with the thoughtfulness of preparing custom T-shirts for the hosts. While talking about how she ended up as an intern on Office Workers 2 and is suffering from job insecurity, she made the audience roar when, in response to Kim Gura's question "Haven't you gotten any hints?" she replied, "Shh! It's a secret," with a wink. Her bubbly reactions and playful attitude made her variety persona even clearer.
With exceptional sociability, witty delivery, and natural reactions, Yoon firmly established her potential as a promising variety star through Radio Star.
Meanwhile, STAYC, which includes Yoon, plans to continue expanding touchpoints with global fans through various stages and content, and on Feb. 11 next year is set to release their first full-length Japanese album STAY ALIVE.
