Broadcaster Park Na-rae spoke publicly eight days after she announced she would suspend broadcasting activities amid allegations of manager abuse and illegal medical procedures, but analysts say the explanatory video has instead backfired.
Park Na-rae recently released a video explaining her position, but the public criticized the video for lacking a clear apology and specific explanations of the circumstances. Meanwhile, a YouTube channel analyzed Park Na-rae's tone, facial expressions and manner of speaking.
On the 17th, the YouTube channel that covers speech techniques, 'Community Code', posted a short titled "Why she closes her mouth at the end of every sentence (Park Na-rae apology video)." In the video, the YouTuber pointed out that Park Na-rae tightly closes her mouth at the end of each sentence and explained, "Natural speaking involves keeping the mouth open to breathe and continuing into the next sentence."
The YouTuber continued, "In Park Na-rae's case, she shows a pattern of pressing her lips together immediately after finishing a sentence," and analyzed, "This is called 'sentence-level closure,' a response that appears when someone is maximizing risk management in a situation where a single word could lead to major damage."
Earlier, on the 16th Park Na-rae announced her official position through the YouTube channel 'Baek Eun-young's Golden Time.' In the video she said she voluntarily stepped down from all the programs she was doing because of the issues surrounding her, adding, "It was a choice to avoid causing further confusion or burden to the producers and colleagues."
She also said, "There are parts of the current allegations that require a calm verification of the facts, so legal procedures are underway," and added, "I will not make any additional public statements or explanations during that process." She added, "I judged that this matter is not a personal emotional or relationship issue but something that should be verified objectively through official procedures."
Park Na-rae emphasized, "This choice is not to blame someone or assign responsibility but to exclude emotions and personal judgment and leave it to the procedures," and said, "I will halt all activities for the time being and focus on resolving this matter." She also made clear that she would make no further comments after that video.
However, after the explanatory video was released, online criticism such as "an explanation without an apology" and "no sign of taking responsibility" followed, and with the emergence of the tone and facial expression analysis video, the controversy does not seem to be subsiding easily.
