Singer Kim Beom-su candidly revealed why he disclosed his vocal disorder and his current condition.
On the 18th, a video titled 'Singer Kim Beom-su, why he revealed his vocal disorder' was posted on the YouTube channel 'PDC by PDC'. The video featured Kim Beom-su as a guest, where he shared his recent condition and feelings.
That day PDC said to Kim Beom-su, who recently confessed to a vocal disorder, "I was surprised when I saw the article and wanted to ask how you were doing when we met. It felt much bigger in print," and brought up the topic.
Kim Beom-su said this situation was something he had experienced for the first time. He explained, "This was the first time I experienced this while doing musical activities. Until now it was just that my condition was poor. When conditions are poor, they come back up someday, so I thought, 'Two weeks of rest will do' at most."
He continued, "But this vocal disorder that occurred this time is literally a 'vocal disorder.' Functionally there is nothing wrong, but when I actually try to make a sound I can't control it," making clear it is a different problem from his usual condition fluctuations.
Kim Beom-su said the cause of the vocal disorder was not simply a physical problem. He said, "Physical problems also cannot be explained only by what we commonly call aging. Psychological factors are also very large, and it could be some kind of trauma."
Regarding why he disclosed the vocal disorder, he candidly said, "I felt that avoiding this would be wrong. Since hiding it wouldn't solve anything, I decided to talk about my situation and face it."
Kim Beom-su said he cannot promise a recovery time and said he is working hard now. He said, "If my mind becomes at ease, it might improve then. I'm doing human efforts like vocal training and feel like I'm back to my beginnings," and added, "I'm spending time going back to the training I did with teachers when I was a rookie, to the period when I built my fundamentals, and reviewing things one by one."
Kim Beom-su also said, "My mind is gradually getting better. There are hopes like 'This will get better if I do this, right?'" and added, "I'm working hard to overcome this with hopes that if I strengthen my vocal technique and rise again I might find an even better sound."
Meanwhile, last month in November Kim Beom-su confessed on the YouTube channel 'WeRacle' that "there is currently a problem with my vocalization," saying he had a vocal disorder. He said problems occur in his main vocal range around the 2-octave re-mi-fa-sol area, and especially that about 40% of his signature song 'I miss you' falls within that range, increasing his anxiety. <
