Actor Choi Ji-woo spoke about her feelings acting as a "mother."
On the 18th at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a production briefing was held for the film "Sugar" (director Choi Shin-choon, distributor Studio Target Co., Ltd., SamBaek Sanghoe Co., Ltd., produced by Horangi Giun, Message Film Co., Ltd.). Actors Choi Ji-woo, Min Jin-woong and Go Dong-ha attended the event. Director Choi Shin-choon suddenly announced he would not attend due to personal reasons.
The film "Sugar" is a human drama that tells the miraculous story of a mother who, after struggling to save her young son diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, ultimately changes the world.
Melodrama queen Choi Ji-woo transforms into a strong mother who fights the world's prejudice to protect her child, delivering the most intense acting transformation of her filmography. Joining her are the solid acting of Min Jin-woong and the pure charm of child actor Go Dong-ha, completing a perfect acting ensemble.
Specifically, Choi Ji-woo makes a comeback to the screen after three years with this work. Actually becoming a mother to a first daughter at age 46, Choi Ji-woo confessed, I received this script after my child was born, so perhaps I received it with a heavier heart, and I think my heart was very moved.
She continued, In the beginning she is very afraid and has to pretend to be fine for the child. She tells her husband she is fine, but as time passes Mira's emotions change, don't they? I think I could empathize with those parts. Rather than letting the emotions come out too strongly, it was difficult to hold them back, she admitted.
He, who also appeared in "Sudo-ra," was asked in a subsequent interview about the influence the recurring "mother" roles seen in the media have on "mother" Choi Ji-woo. I didn't insist on taking mother roles, but it seems to be a process that naturally flows to actresses, she said. I learn a lot and constantly worry about how to live and what kind of mother I want to be. I think it makes me once again consider what mindset I should have going forward, she added.
Meanwhile, the film "Sugar" is scheduled to meet audiences on Jan. 21, 2026.
