Singer Kim Dong-ryul posted a long tribute honoring the first anniversary of the death of Jeonramhoe member the late Seo Dong-wook.
On the 18th, Kim Dong-ryul wrote on his personal SNS, "'First Love' was the decisive song that led to the birth of Jeonramhoe. Dong-wook, who heard 'First Love' included on a demo tape I made in high school through a friend of a friend, sent me a long appreciation letter, which led to our becoming friends, and we naturally came together with the determination to form a team and make music."
Recalling a recently finished concert, Kim Dong-ryul said, "During the promenade concerts, I said that 'Hope' was the most challenging song for me, but actually 'First Love' was my biggest obstacle. I wanted, by any means, to do my best and finish singing through to the final seventh show. I thought there might have been audience members who came just to hear the single song 'Drafts of memory.'"
He continued, "I worked hard, but as everyone knows, at the final performance I couldn't complete the song to my satisfaction. Instead, the parts I couldn't finish were quietly filled in by the audience. I'm truly grateful. Although I wasn't one hundred percent professional, because of that I was finally able to let Dong-wook go."
Kim Dong-ryul added, "I belatedly think this might have been a process I absolutely needed. And I think this wasn't only for me; everyone who loved Dong-wook and everyone who loved Jeonramhoe who were there likely felt similarly."
He said, "Today is the one-year anniversary of Dong-wook's passing. We plan to gather with the people who loved him to hold a mass and share a meal. I still miss him a lot, and it's still very hard, but I still want to sing Jeonramhoe songs for a long time. Sometimes smiling, and when I can't help it, crying," and he concluded, "Thank you again to everyone who cried and sang with me."
Meanwhile, Jeonramhoe alumnus the late Seo Dong-wook died on Dec. 18 last year. The deceased debuted after forming Jeonramhoe with Kim Dong-ryul, a fellow alumnus of Whimun High School and Yonsei University, and winning the grand prize at the 1993 MBC College Song Festival with 'In a dream,' and later gained popularity by producing numerous hit songs such as 'Drafts of memory,' 'Travel,' 'Confessions over drinks,' and 'Graduation.'
After the group disbanded in 1997, Seo Dong-wook became a financier, and Kim Dong-ryul continued his career as a singer.
