Actor Ryu Jun-yeol's Reply 1988 10th anniversary gathering absence misunderstanding has been resolved. His absence turned out to be a simple scheduling issue, not due to personal reasons or his past relationship with Hyeri.
On the 16th, the YouTube channel 'Channel Sibo-ya' released a video titled 'Reply 1988 Sung Sun-woo x Ryu Dong-ryong student memory trip live.' That broadcast featured actors Lee Dong-hwi and Ko Kyung-pyo, who, along with producer Na Young-seok, reminisced about the drama Reply 1988 and shared behind-the-scenes stories from that time.
On that day producer Na Young-seok mentioned that to mark the 10th anniversary of Reply 1988 they took a 2 Days & 1 Night trip with the cast. He said, "All the Ssangmundong family actually gathered without anyone missing," and explained, "Ryu Jun-yeol, who had a shooting schedule that day, briefly dropped by in the morning before leaving."
In other words, Ryu Jun-yeol simply could not join the entire MT schedule, but despite his busy filming schedule he made time to show his face at the event celebrating the 10th anniversary. This differs from some speculation that he intentionally avoided the gathering.
Previously, Ryu Jun-yeol developed a romantic relationship with Hyeri through Reply 1988 and they dated publicly for about seven years before breaking up in 2023. Later, in 2024, reports of Ryu Jun-yeol dating Han So-hee prompted Hyeri to post "funny" on social media, once again drawing attention. As a result, speculation followed that Ryu Jun-yeol's absence from the 10th anniversary MT might have been because of Hyeri.
However, Na Young-seok's explanation revealed that Ryu Jun-yeol simply could not attend all the schedules due to his timetable and did not shun the meaningful occasion of the Reply 1988 10th anniversary.
Meanwhile, Reply 1988 continues to be beloved and regarded as a classic, celebrated for the close friendships among its cast even 10 years after its broadcast.
