Former One Time member Song Baek-kyung said she will quit voice acting entirely.
On the 18th, Song Baek-kyung posted on her social account, "First, I have deleted the voice sample voice actor account on Instagram, and if I fill out the withdrawal form this week and submit it to the Korea Voice Performance Association, it's over," adding, "Really goodbye~ voice actor Song Baek-kyung," reporting that she is going through procedures to quit voice acting.
Earlier, on the 15th, she posted a long message saying, "To get to the point, voice acting was never a field that suited me or one I could reach for," and Song Baek-kyung confessed, "The title of 'official voice actor' that can only be obtained by completing the public recruitment life is something I possess. In fact, my perception is such that it would not feel strange at all to say that I have been effectively out of business or closed for voice acting. On the other hand, my affiliation and class tags that clearly still hang on me create a form of discrepancy full of incongruity. These things have intertwined and created a kind of muddled mix in me that I only admitted and recognized today."
She went on, "Sometimes when the media introduces me and the word 'voice actor' modifies me, I felt as if I had become a liar even though I never said it; that feeling and thought dominated me. I reached the point of thinking it's time to clean up this situation where it feels like a piece of clothing I hardly ever wear is just hanging alone taking up a corner of the closet," explaining why she decided to quit voice acting.
In particular, Song Baek-kyung said, "After drawing this conclusion, I become deeply immersed in memories. The remnants of those times sometimes bubble up like playful little foams," and continued with a pointed remark: "early morning commutes, the KBS exclusive voice actor room, duty shifts, cleaning, the shabby practice room, reading to my heart's content, senior colleagues who were like angels, disreputable senior jerks with warped personalities.. To confess honestly, the reading that was part of the exclusive voice actor duties was a very important part that allowed me to stay at KBS for two years. I overcame a couple of major turning points when I felt like quitting."
She said, "Actually, during the One Time days I hated and loathed appearing on KBS. Back then, KBS producers who seemed to linger there deliberately interpreted and judged our song lyrics negatively and often banned broadcasts. Producers at broadcasting stations are presumably very learned and smart people, so why are KBS producers like this? That was my constant thought. Ironically, about 20 years later I became an exclusive voice actor and experienced the inside of KBS as a two-year contract employee there," but added, "there is no need to go into useless details now."
She continued, "As a singer I hated and resented KBS so much, but as a voice actor I thought, 'Wow, it feels like I only read books here and I even get paid,' and I spent those two years enjoying it," while also admitting, "I acknowledge that it was a new challenge in my life, but a challenge is a challenge, and when I asked myself whether it was a wise choice, I honestly cannot deny that there was reckless audacity driven by bravado, and that it was not a small thing."
She also denied rumors, saying, "There were conspiracy and rumor whispers about supposed 'preferential corruption in the voice actor exam' concerning me, like a plot that suddenly changed so only I would get in at the third round, but that never happened," and added, "I have never once believed that I was chosen as the 44th class voice actor because I was good at acting or had a good voice. The broadcasting station was probably more interested in the novelty of my background and origin than in any merit."
She said, "Soon I will resign from the Korea Voice Performance Association and the KBS voice actor troupe. And, wanting to be honest with myself, I will erase the word 'voice actor' from the occupation field listed for me. As I get older and my physical energy wanes, I want to shed cumbersome things and focus more on fundamental matters," adding, "I will study. I will study and take on a new job. Only study can raise my value. I still believe it's not too late. I will really study so I can live doing what I truly want. There are no has-beens, only restarts. bye bye voice actor Song Baek-kyung... #realization #acknowledgment #restart #valueboost"
Meanwhile, Song Baek-kyung debuted in 1998 as a member of One Time, briefly promoted in the mixed group Mugadang in 2006 after the group disbanded, and later challenged herself in the food service industry. She married in 2016 and has two sons. Notably, she passed the 44th KBS voice actor troupe exam in 2019 and worked as a freelancer from 2021.
